Zaryadye Park and its concert hall made it to the finals of the MIPIM Awards 2019, an internationally-renowned real estate competition for innovative projects , according to member of the jury, Chief Moscow Architect Sergei Kuznetsov.

“Zaryadye Park already earned international recognition from the MIPIM Awards jury last year, but Russian projects have never received the prestigious award. Our chances of winning are much greater due to the opening of the concert hall. This is both an impressive architectural structure and a perfect acoustic instrument capable of astounding the audience once and for all. I strongly believe the park will win. The winners will be announced on 14 March,” Mr Kuznetsov noted.

A prestigious competition

The MIPIM Awards are presented in 11 categories. Zaryadye Park has reached the finals in the Best Urban Regeneration Project category. It is up against three rivals: the ecology park in Changchun, China; the National Kaohsiung Centre for the Arts, Taiwan; and the project to rebuild the historical centre of Frankfurt-am-Main.

This year, the competition involves 200 projects from 58 countries. Of them, 45 entries from 21 countries made it to the finals. France submitted the most projects – six in all – followed by China and Germany, which put forward five projects each. Great Britain sent in four entries and Spain and Netherlands made three entries each.

Recognising Zaryadye Park

Zaryadye Park opened in September 2017 on the site of the former Rossiya Hotel. It has a unique botanical collection demonstrating the riches of our country’s beauty. The park comprises four typical Russian landscape zones – steppe, meadowland, forest and northern landscape. The entire area is barrier-free, without any kerbstones or fences.

The flying footbridge over the Moskva River has become one of the most popular tourist attractions of the capital. The park also has a nature centre where children can attend lectures on genetics, microbiology and geography.

Zaryadye has already enjoyed recognition at prestigious international competitions. Together with Luzhniki Sports Complex, the park made the shortlist of the MIPIM Awards 2018. It also won the ArchDaily’s award for the Best Public Space Project and went on to the finals of the World Architecture Festival. In addition, Zaryadye landed on Time magazine’s list of the world’s greatest places.
