Sergei Sobyanin talks about cutting edge technologies used for metro construction

Innovations include special structures that protect buildings overhead from vibrations and noise and information modeling which helps detect and correct defects at the design stage.

The Moscow metro uses the most progressive design and construction technologies, Sergei Sobyanin revealed on his Telegram channel.

“One of those novel methods is vibration dampening track structures that protect buildings from noise and vibrations. There is also information modeling for virtual station building. It helps us detect and correct errors that could occur in real-world construction processes,” Moscow Mayor wrote.

Some stations use the top-down construction technologies, building from the top, level by level. Nizhegorodskaya, located at the Big Circle and Nekrasovskaya lines, uses this method, for instance.

Metro builders also use giant shields, up to 10 meters in diameter. They help drill double-track tunnels where trains can run in both directions at once. These shields were used to build the Big Circle and Nekrasovskaya lines.
