Sergei Sobyanin on how 3D modeling drives metro building
The method helping identify and rectify errors that could occur in real-world construction processes.

Moscow is increasingly using state-of-the-art digital technology in the design and construction of new metro facilities, Sergei Sobyanin writes in his Telegram channel.

“With the help of 3D modeling, we carry out virtual station construction to identify and rectify errors that could occur in real-world construction processes,” the Moscow Mayor wrote.

For example, before building a station on the eastern Big Circle Line (BCL) segment, they created a related digital twin. The same approach is currently applied when designing new stations of radial metro lines.

In addition, 3D technology enables creation and release of basic and detailed design documentation. This is how the Terekhovo and Kuntsevskaya BCL stations were designed in fact. Now digital technology is being employed in construction of the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya metro line,

engineers using databases built on domestic software, which is also used to design the Biryulyovskoye electric depot to grow into a large infrastructure facility within the Moscow metro.

“We will continue to enhance the capabilities of metro construction digitalization. IT experts are already developing a database of ready-made solutions, thus simplifying 3D modeling of a future segment or entire metro line,” Sergei Sobyanin emphasized.
