The last phase of the project includes the installation of five pavilions, three descents to the water, bicycle lanes and six bicycle racks, as well as running tracks with a cushioned surface.

Reconstruction of Marc Chagall Embankment in the south of the city is expected to be competed in 2021, said Deputy Mayor for Urban Development and Construction Andrei Bochkaryov.

“In the first phase, in 2019, a pedestrian area and a rebuilt 670-metre-long embankment were opened. In the final phase, work is underway to install five pavilions, create three descents to the water and pave the sidewalks, as well as arrange bike paths and six bike racks and lay cushioned cross-country running tracks. We are planning to complete the Marc Chagall Embankment in the first quarter of 2021,” Bochkaryov said.

Andrei Bochkaryov also pointed out that all the embankments in Moscow are being rebuilt to new standards: with a considerable setback from the water line, which will create a comfortable public space near the water for recreation and walking.

Head of the Department of Construction Rafik Zagrutdinov added that comprehensive improvements will be included on the upgraded embankment.

“There will be a cafe in a single structure with an amphitheater, a take-away cafe, bike-share stations, two children's playgrounds and local athletics fields. In addition, we will plant 134 trees and 395 bushes,” he said.

Rafik Zagrutdinov said the Marc Chagall Embankment project began in March 2019. The project includes a new 104-metre-long natural bank, 1.3 hectares of pavement areas (walkways) covered with granite blocks, 520 metres of bike paths and one kilometre of cushioned running tracks. In addition, 274 trees and 960 bushes were planted and 15,000 square metres of lawn were laid.

The Marc Chagall Embankment is part of the green belt of parks at the former ZIL industrial zone, that are directly accessible from the residential areas that line the Embankment Park, and a comfortable green recreation area along the Moskva River.
