My Moscow app wins silver at international competition sponsored by World Smart Sustainable Cities Organisation

The My Moscow mobile app won the silver at an international competition, sponsored by the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organisation (WeGO). According to Deputy Moscow Mayor Natalia Sergunina, the city received the award in the Efficient Government category. The first place went to Goyang-si, a city in the Republic of Korea (South Korea).

The mos.ru website’s My Moscow official mobile app was launched in late 2018. It was downloaded more than 1.7 million times in less than two years. Additionally, people in Moscow have obtained over three million online services using the app.

“We are happy that international experts have praised our work. The development of Moscow’s digital environment is a never-ending process. It is directly linked with urban comfort, quality of life and the city’s competitiveness, compared to other mega-cities,” Ms Sergunina noted, while commenting on the award.

The My Moscow app allows local residents to use online services and websites, to receive city updates plus to get news and advice from operators at the city’s call centre.

The app allows anyone to book medical appointments, to pay for kindergartens and to pay utility and other bills in the My Payments integral section, to transmit the readings of water and electricity meters and to check the academic performance of their children at schools. Specialists are constantly upgrading the mobile app, so that it meets modern trends and users’ requests.

People with disabilities and impaired health can also use the app’s main functions. It supports dynamic fonts, the Voice-Over function and meets all standards of the Apple and Google operational systems.

“Such an international acclaim as the WeGO Award is once again proof of the fact that online services are highly popular in Moscow. This also motivates us to develop new services and to streamline available services in line with modern trends and popular opinion, while developing the capital’s digital system,” Moscow Government Minister Eduard Lysenko, Head of the Department of Information Technology, noted.

The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organisation (WeGO) brings together municipal governments interested in introducing and developing e-government concepts. Over 200 cities have joined it to date, with Moscow following suit in 2015.

Held every three years, the Smart Sustainable City Awards competition singles out the best e-government projects. In 2017, Moscow got a special mention in the E-Government Service category. Today, the city offers over 370 online services, and people in Moscow have used them over 1.7 billion times since 2011. There are  about 30,000 online service requests per hour.
