In Moscow, two additional hospitals have been repurposed to treat coronavirus patients. Several more hospitals will be ready to admit patients next week, as reported by Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Moscow Mayor for Social Development.
'Although all our hospitals, including the hospital in Kommunarka, successfully cope with the flow of patients, we are starting to prepare extra capacities in advance to restructure the workload of healthcare staff and conduct additional COVID-19 training. We have already launched two additional hospitals — the Sklifosovsky Research Institute and the Maxillofacial War Veterans Hospital. A few more hospitals will be ready to admit coronavirus patients next week. The bottom line is that not any random room is fit for this purpose. We make every effort to adapt the existing facilities for coronavirus patients. First of all, we are going to provide each bed with oxygenation equipment. Moreover, there must be medical locks to separate contaminated and clean areas. To date, about 10 buildings of various Moscow hospitals are getting ready to accept coronavirus patients, if needed,' said Anastasia Rakova.
Today, most patients with suspected coronavirus are treated in Russia’s largest medical — the hospital in Kommunarka. Moreover, extra healthcare workers are involved, including volunteers, clinical residents and other medical staff. They all are additionally trained.
'We understand that physicians are overloaded now, and we support them. As I have already mentioned, healthcare workers will receive an additional allowance for their work to combat coronavirus,' Anastasia Rakova added.
Earlier, construction of a treatment facility launched at the site of the Infection Centre in Troitsky and Novomoskovsky administrative areas. It will have 12 buildings, including laboratory, household and disinfection facilities. The healthcare facility will open in the settlement of Voronovskoye near the village of Golokhvastovo. The Infection Centre will cover 70,000 sq m. The new hospital will offer 500 beds, with 250 of them in the intensive care unit. Besides, there will be an admission room, an intensive care unit and laboratory, children's, operating and maternity units, if needed. The Infection Centre will have cutting-edge medical equipment and supplies.
Moscow has been on high alert since 5 March. This measure allows to keep the normal life in the city, while focusing the city services primarily on Muscovites who came from high-risk countries.
