VDNKh in Tverskaya and Bolshoi Theatre in Zaryadye. City Day highlights
Concerts, performances, exhibitions and master classes were held throughout the city, with Tverskaya Street being the main venue.

On 7 and 8 September, Moscow celebrated the City Day. Some 7.4 million people visited the festive venues. This year, it was centred around VDNKh celebrating its 80th anniversary.

On Saturday, 7 September, 1.2 million guests visited Moscow parks, with more than half a million attending VDNKh. The next day, parks brought together 2.2 million people, with half a million guests visiting VDNKh. Over 200,000 citizens attended Ours in the City rock festival. Flower Jam attracted more than 800,000 guests. More than 900,000 citizens came to district venues to celebrate.

Celebration in Tverskaya Street

In Tverskaya Street, nearly a million people celebrated the 872nd Moscow's birthday. It had four venues dedicated to the VDNKh's main symbols and history.

Citizens have attended hundreds of master classes, open training sessions, tours, lectures, performances and concerts. They watched animated performances of the Golden Mask’s special programme participants and unique productions by the Moscow Drama Theatre on Malaya Bronnaya, the Inclusion Centre of the So-Yedineniye Foundation and the People's Artist of Russia Andris Liepa's Production Centre.

As for sports, many people tried their hand at climbing walls, zipline, SUP surfing, others attended pump track and skate park master classes. Insightful programmes included 'What? Where? When?' intellectual club games, classes in Moto-Shop and Robotics Studio.

The audience enjoyed 'The Opening of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition 1954' programme, 'Dances of the World' show, 'We Walked on the Morning Dew Towards Moscow' special project by Rupor troupe, as well as evening concerts by Uma2rman, Maxim Leonidov, Surganova and Orchestra, Samotsvety band, Inna Malikova and Novye Samotsvety and Dagamba.

Children's poets and Fashion Parade Moscow: City Day at VDNKh

On 7 and 8 September, over a million people came to VDNKh to congratulate Moscow on its birthday.

On Saturday, it offered 'The Best City on Earth' light show, performance of the Astana Opera Theatre artists and the brass bands festival participants. Brass band performances continued on Sunday, too.

Also, visitors took part in a big dance lesson and watched a gala concert opening the Days of Culture of Kazakhstan in Russia. The winners of the Rhythm of My City festival were awarded on Promyshlennosti Square.

On 7 and 8 September, VDNKh opened sports and entertainment venues. Guests played board games, got acquainted with circus art learning juggling and balancing, and listened to children's poets and storytellers reading their works. Besides, on 8 September, the Fashion Parade Moscow was held on the stage between Pavilion No.1 and the Friendship of Peoples fountain.

On the City Day, Akademika Sakharova Prospekt hosted Ours in the City rock festival. On 7 September, Underwood, Murakami, Zdob si Zdub, Alliance, 7B and Gorshenev bands performed here. Konets Filma, Valery Syutkin, Naiv, Slot, Aria and other musicians performed the next day.

Soulful Moscow and Bolshoi Theatre artists in Zaryadye: City Day in parks

Visitors watched free concerts and performances, took part in flash mob dances and sports master classes in 30 parks of the Moscow Department of Culture. They offered a special festive programme attended by more than 4.4 million people.

Hermitage Garden has held the seventh Theatrical March that offered performances by 14 Moscow theatres. Sokolniki hosted Soulful Moscow festival to tell about support to large families and people with disabilities. Guests learned how to become a volunteer, protect animals and take care of the environment.

Old Moscow procession of animated paintings took place in Sokolniki Park. Actors dressed in costumes of different epochs passed from the central entrance through Fontannaya Square to Festivalnaya Square, carrying landscapes of old and modern Moscow.

In Zaryadye, you could listen to pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gioacchino Rossini, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini performed by the Bolshoi Theatre, State Academic Mariinsky Theatre and Helikon Opera artists. Rock concerts were held in Izmailovo Park, with Sergei Galanin, Diana Arbenina and Olga Kormukhina performing. A concert by Alexander Buinov, Dmitry Malikov, Yuulia Kovalchuk, Yegor Krid and Marseille took place in Khodynskoye Pole Park.

Fili Park offered a master class to make a modular Flag of Russia origami. A flash mob dance took place in the Park in Angarskaya Street, with participants twisting to the song 'The Best City on Earth' by Jean Tatlian.

Archery, football and figure skating: City Day in Luzhniki

More than 160,000 people have visited sports, entertainment and music venues in Luzhniki. Over 40 sports grounds, 20 active recreation areas and dozens of food courts opened here on the occasion of Moscow's 872nd birthday. You could also watch talk shows with famous athletes and a big concert by Alexei Vorobyov, Nastya Kudri, Yelena Temnikova and T-Killah.

Moscow Chertanovo football club played a Russian Football League championship match against Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik team with a 2:2 score. Also, the arena hosted the Archery World Cup.

The Russian figure skating team presented their traditional pre-season show programs.

Moscow Fitness Fest venue offered visitors to take part in master classes dealing with healthy lifestyles and proper training session schedule. They were conducted by the three-time world fitness champion Dmitry Yashankin and the best Russian fitness coaches.

70,000 fireworks over Moscow

The fireworks were the highlight of the festivities dedicated to Moscow 872 festivities. Citizens enjoyed more than 70,000 fireworks launched on 32 sites in different districts. You could also watch fireworks in Park Pobedy on Poklonnaya Gora, Gorky Park, Bauman Garden, Michurinsky Garden at the VDNKh. Residents of Moscow districts, in particular, Zelenograd, Troitsky and Novomoskovsky administrative areas, could enjoy fireworks shows, too.
