The world's major educational event, the 3rd International City of Education Forum, finished in Moscow. During the four days, the grounds of VDNKh and Gorky Park have hosted over 700 events attended by 152,000 people, the largest number in the forum's history.
In 2017, the City of Education Forum was held for the first time. 35,000 people visited 7,000 sq m of exhibition spaces located in Pavilion No. 75. A year later, the area of stands increased threefold, with the number of guests totalling 133,000.
Forum 2019 was the largest in Russia and the world, as it had expanded beyond VDNKh's boundaries. Over a thousand experts from 50 countries and some 80 regions of Russia spoke at 15 City of Education venues. The programme was focused on children and the unique opportunities offered by the modern metropolis education system.
The open pedagogical council, the meeting of the Public Chamber of Moscow and the City Science Council, festival of veteran pedagogues, cadets' celebratory assembly, 'Race for the Good', Megacities Olympiad and three international conferences on current challenges in education were the Forum's highlights.
Representatives of top-ranked global corporations, high-profile companies and influential NGOs, including the ambassador of the World Tourism Organisation and UNESCO Vyacheslav Fetisov, Wikipedia's founder Jimmy Wales, Head of the Department for Education and Skills of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development Andreas Schleicher, the organiser of TIMSS international study and IEA Director Dirk Hastedt, Yandex Director General Yelena Bunina, Head of the Department for KidZania International Educational Programs Ger Graus, Director of Lego Education in Russia and the CIS Olga Lombas, Dutch urbanist Cees Donkers and many others participated in public debates, lectures and master classes.
