This year, a thousand bicycles more will be available at Moscow bike-sharing stations. So, 530 bike-sharing stations will offer 5,000 bicycles to the Moscow residents for rent.
"We expect more than 5.5 million rides on rented bicycles to be taken in 2019," said Deputy Moscow Mayor, Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development Maxim Liksutov.
Electric bikes are also very popular with citizens. According to Maxim Liksutov, there will be 50% more bicycles at bike-sharing stations in 2019. “390 e-bikes, serviced at 13 stations, will be available for rent,” he reported.
Velobike bike-sharing stations were opened in Moscow in 2013. There were first only 79 stations at the Boulevard Ring and Frunzenskaya Embankment. In 2018, more than 4,000 bicycles were available for rent at 430 stations. New bike-sharing points were opened near metro stations and the Moscow Central Ring, parks, as well as in remote areas of the city. Last season, city bikes were rented more than four million times.
Not only the number of bicycles to be increased soon, the fleet of scooters will expand up to 10,000 units, and car-sharing stations will offer up to 20,000-25,000 cars for rent.
Moscow Car Sharing project was launched in the autumn of 2015. To date, a fleet of Moscow car-sharing operators totals almost 17,000 cars. The rent varies by operator, with average rate of RUB 6.00 to 10.00 per minute. Car-sharing users do not have to pay for petrol. Besides, they may park anywhere in the city for free.
