The Moscow Zoo will lower the admission price from the usual 500 roubles to just 300 roubles on New Year’s Eve.
“New Year is sometimes described as a time of miracles and magic and so we have prepared a gift for all our visitors on this occasion: a 40 percent discount. This special offer will be available to everyone on 31 December,” said Svetlana Akulova, General Director of the Moscow Zoo.
Visitors will be able to enter the zoo between 9 am and 2 pm and stay there until 3 pm. During the New Year days off between 1 and 8 January, the zoo will work every day between 9 am and 5 pm, and tickets will be sold until 4 pm.
According to Svetlana Akulova, the zoo will take on the atmosphere of a winter fairytale during the holiday season. A New Year tree and an art installation resembling a retro car loaded with gifts have been placed near the main entrance. There are also two photo zones with glowing illuminations, figures of reindeers and other things associated with New Year in the old garden in front of Klyuev House. Visitors will be able to take pictures and warm up in Father Frost’s cozy sitting room located on the ground floor. There is also a Magic Postbox to send letters to the main New Year wizard placed near Klyuev House.
Contests, quizzes and a quest: New Year programmes at the zoo
Zoo visitors will be able to take part in the festive programme during the New Year festivities and during the last week of December. For example, the Time of Miracles New Year performance will be held at 11 am and 2 pm on 22, 23, 29 and 30 December as well as 5, 6 and 7 January. Those taking part in this festive show will get a chance to take part in quizzes and contests as well as solve puzzles and will get to know some really amazing creatures who reside at the zoo. The programme is designed for children and their parents, so the entire family can take part in the Time of Miracles.
At 12 noon and 1 pm on 5, 6 and 7 January, the zoo invites those who would like to participate in the On Snow-Covered Trails intellectual quest. Each participant will transform themselves into a pathfinder who must unravel the secrets of various animals. The winners will be able to get a closer look at some of the animals who reside at the zoo.
Preliminary registration is necessary to take part in the New Year programme and people should call + 7 499 255 57 63 and collect their tickets at the zoo.
People will also be able to have fun during the winter break at the venues of the Journey to Christmas Festival. This year it will be held between 14 December and 13 January. Festival-goers will be able to enjoy street performances as well as free workshops on how to make New Year gifts and special food. There will be a total of 78 venues in the centre of Moscow and in the districts and parks. They will be open between 11 am and 10 pm on weekdays and between 10 am and 10 pm on the weekends. The venue on Red Square already opened on 30 November and works between10 am and 11.30 pm every day.
