Fashion designers will compete in eight categories, including The Best Slav Costume and Ethnic Motifs in Present-Day Costume.

The Eurasian haute couture pageant of ethnic costumes Ethno-Erato 2018 will be held on 15-16 December for the eighteenth time.

The first day of the event will be held at the Moscow House of Nationalities. On 16 December, the awards ceremony for winners and diploma-holders will take place at the Moscow Government’s Grand Concert Hall on Novy Arbat as part of a gala concert.

“Ethno-Erato brings together representatives of different peoples with an interest in national costume. The aim of this unique competition is not restricted to finding the best costume designers but extends to facilitating the rapprochement of different cultures,” noted Vasily Suchkov, head of the Moscow Department for Ethnic Policy and Interregional Ties.

This year’s pageant will promote fashion designers from over 20 regions ranging from the Russian Far East to Crimea. They will compete in eight categories. The jury will select the best Slav and Oriental costumes as well as those traditional among the Finno-Ugric peoples and in the Caucasus, the North, Siberia and the Far East. They will also choose winners in the following categories: Ethnic Motifs in Present-Day Costume, Retro National Costume and Ethic Stage Costume in Action.

Since its opening, the competition has led to the discovery of new names in costume design. In addition to that, Ethno-Erato promotes the interaction of government agencies with ethnic and cultural public associations, regional community associations and national and cultural autonomous entities.
