On the night of 31 December to 1 January people in Moscow will have no difficulty getting to their relatives and friends. The metro and MCC will be operating through the night.
The transport schedule will also be changed for the 7 January (Russian Christmas) so that the metro and the MCC will be closed at 2 am, one hour later than usual.
From 2019 to 2021, the Moscow Metro and MCC will operate through the night on City Day and New Year’s Eve.
Such a New Year transport schedule is being used for the third consecutive year. On the night of 31 December 2017 to 1 January 2018 over 500,000 passengers took surface transport, the metro and the MCC. Thirty five thousand of them celebrated the New Year in the metro and also in stations.
The round-the-clock metro schedule makes it easier to reach the centre of Moscow for the Christmas Journey festival events such as concerts, performances, games, contests and master-classes. Festival goers will be able to celebrate the New Year in city parks and in Tverskaya Street. During the celebrations Moscow’s main street will be turned into a pedestrian zone.
