Winter fun: Ice skating rinks to open in 23 city parks
People can skate for free in 12 parks, including Sokolniki, Fili, Goncharovsky and Perovsky parks.

This winter, 23 local parks under Moscow’s Department of Culture will offer ice skating. Most artificial ice skating rinks are already open, and natural ice rinks will open soon.

Skaters can now head to Sokolniki, Gorky, Tagansky and Goncharovsky parks and 13 other parks icy fun. The first natural ice skating rinks are currently being installed, and they will open in Izmailovsky and Perovsky parks and Hermitage Garden next week. Another 15 natural-ice skating rinks are to open before the end of December.

“The city’s parks have prepared various surprises for skaters this winter. For example, Gorky Park’s skating rink has become a factory with a neon assembly line and a ten-metre smokestack. People can rent skates with lights and neon shoelaces that glow in the dark. The Cinema Skating Rink has opened at Bauman Garden for the first time. Fun films and comedies will be shown on a digital screen throughout the winter. Perovsky Park boasts the Cat Skating Rink where people can rent skates with cat pictures and cat masks. The tickets also feature kittens. This skating rink owes its name to a homeless cat and her kittens that were befriended by the park’s management this past autumn,” the Mosgorpark press service noted.
