The art of improvisation: 6th Future of Jazz Festival
It will bring together musicians from Russia and the US.

The 6th Future of Jazz international music festival, a project by People’s Artist of Russia Igor Butman, takes place in Moscow from 9 to 11 November.

As per tradition, its main venue will be the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. On 10 November, young musicians will perform there together with the world famous Igor Butman Moscow Jazz Orchestra. A jam session will be held at the Butman Jazz Club on Taganka on 9 and 11 November. Here, in a less formal environment, the festival participants will show off their improvisation skills.

This year, the festival will feature jazz players from Russia and the US. The audiences will be treated to vocal improvisations by Anastasia Lyutova, musical fantasies and recognisable swing by pianist Yulia Sidorenko, double bass player Artyom Baskakov, sax player Makar Kashitsyn and guests from the US: trumpet player Josh Evans and drummer Kyle Benford.

The festival has become a platform where musicians write the history of contemporary jazz. In the past years, it has introduced the Moscow audience to many artists who have become favourites. Among them are Oleg Akkuratov, Kate Davis, Francesco Cafiso, Evan Sherman, Mark Whitfield, A Bu, Russell Hall, Jake Labazzi and many other talented young artists.

Last year, Russia was represented by sax players Azat Gaifullin and Viktor Potyomkin, trumpet player Mikhail Brucheyev, jazz singer Viktoria Kaunova and drummer Mikhail Fotchenkov.
