The Magistral programme is two years old. New routes connect the city centre, avenues and outskirts, and keep gaining popularity with Muscovites. Over 500,000 people use public transport routes marked with an M every day, Sergei Sobyanin wrote on his Twitter page.
The programme started in 2016, and now the Magistral system includes 43 routes. Buses, trolleybuses and trams arrive at stops every 5 to 7 minutes, and passenger volumes have grown by one third in a year.
Foreign football fans also appreciated the routes in the city centre. During FIFA World Cup 2018, passenger traffic grew by 15 percent. Tourists got their bearings in the city with direction signs at public transit stops. Information was provided in English for them.
