In the three months since the launch of the city bike-share service, Muscovites and visitors have made nearly 2.5 million trips on the bikes. Throughout the whole of last year’s bicycle rental season – from April to November – bikes were rented 2.4 million times.
“The bike-share season has not yet ended, but last year’s record has already been broken in Moscow. The rise in the number of trips is due to an increase in the number of rental stations. New rental points are emerging near metro stations and Moscow Central Circle (MCC) exits, close to parks and in residential neighbourhoods”, said Deputy Moscow Mayor and Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Maxim Liksutov.
The sixth bicycle rental season has been rolling since 26 April. Over 4,000 bicycles are available at 430 stations. For instructions on how to rent a bike, follow the link.
The bike-share programme in Moscow was launched in 2013 with about 79 rental stations on the Boulevard Ring and on Frunzenskaya Embankment. Every year, the number expands by 50 new stations and 500 bicycles.
