New paddling and professional swimming pools

Muscovites have access to about 170 swimming pools, including 27 that were built after 2010, in different parts of the city. This number does not include pools in hotels, hospitals or sanatoriums because these pools are not accessible to everyone.
A new pool has opened in the Krylatskoye Olympic Training Centre in the west of Moscow. This is yet another place where people can build up their health or simply go for fun. The pool is open daily from 7 am to 11 pm. It can accommodate up to 120 people at a time.
For kids and professionals: A swimming pool in Krylatskoye
This new pool is part of the programme to develop the Krylatskoye Rowing Canal that is now open as a sports complex. It was rebuilt in two stages — in 2012 and 2014. This allowed Moscow to host the ICF Canoe Kayak Sprint World Championships for the first time. At that time it was decided to build a pool there as well.
A two-storey building on 3,500 square metres is part of a swimming centre for professionals and other swimmers. It has the main pool with eight lanes (25 m long), a paddling pool for children, an area for dry swimming, a gym, a sauna and a cafeteria. The pool is great for teaching swimming, for competition training and for hosting competitions at the national level.
Children as young as 5 are welcome in the pool. Junior groups are trained in the children’s pool, and seniors in the big one. Group training sessions are also offered for adults that can attend them regardless of their ability. Both children and adults can also learn to swim with an individual coach.

History and the present: The Luzhniki pool
The historical pool in the Luzhniki Sports Complex is undergoing reconstruction, after which it will become a multifunctional swimming centre. It will host competitions at the international level and provide training for professional swimmers.
The area of the building will increase from 19,700 sq m to 56,500 sq m. It will house a professional pool with ten 50 metre lanes, two 25 metre pools with three lanes, an aqua park, gyms, a fitness centre, a boxing club and a children’s sports complex all under one roof.
During the restoration, the architects tried to preserve the pool’s historical image as much as possible. Thus, its facades will be adorned with replicas of the stone carvings that were created by the LeSS creative group in 1956. The original colonnade will be restored as well.
