About 1.6 million trips have been made over the first two months since the opening of the rental season. This is twice as many as during the same period last year, which saw about 782,000 rides made.
"Bicycle rentals have set a new record in terms of the number of trips made. The service is getting more convenient to use as the number of rental stations and bicycles grows throughout Moscow. People in the city are increasingly taking to using bicycles not only for fun, but also as an alternative travel option, Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow, Head of the Department for Transport and Road Infrastructure Development noted.
The sixth bicycle rental season started on 26 April. Users can take advantage of 4,120 bicycles at 430 various rental stations all across the city. The hiring points are located near metro and Moscow Central Circuit stations as well as in parks and residential areas.
The city-wide bicycle rental service in Moscow was launched in 2013 with 79 stations on the Boulevard Ring and Frunzenskaya Embankment. Each year, 50 new stations and 500 bicycles are added to the rental network. By 2019, it will include 480 rental stations and about 4,600 bicycles. Further growth of the network is expected in the Western, Northern, Eastern, South-Eastern, and South-Western administrative areas.
