Getting acquainted with the Irish video art

During the Irish Video Art Night, Celtic artists will share their vision of history, folklore and frailty of life. There will be a discussion after the screening attended by Anna Gryaznova, director of the Irish Week festival, and Art Expert Alexandra Orlova.

Learning about city development

Visitors to the open lectures held at the Museum of Moscow will learn new facts about the development of modern cities. On 21 March, the discussion will be about why city research is necessary in an era of a global future. The lecture is prepared by Nata Volkova, architect, urban developer, researcher, journalist and teacher at the Moscow Architecture School.

Getting nostalgic with Hollywood musical hits

The scores from “Titanic,” “The Professional,” “Star Wars,” “The Bodyguard,” “Mission Impossible” and films about James Bond will be performed at the Moscow International House of Music by Belinda Davids, whose voice resembles that of the late Whitney Houston. Singer Dantanio will also be taking part in the concert, performing songs by the late Michael Jackson and trying to imitate some of his famous dance movements. The show will be accompanied by the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Robert Molinelli.

Enjoying choreography and Japanese literature

Gogol House visitors will be able to enjoy Japanese fan dancing as well as Japanese literature. The art of Oriental dance will be presented by Actress Tomomi Orita, and Russian Orient researcher and translator Tatiana Sokolova-Delyusina will speak about Japanese culture.

Watching an interpretation of a play by Maeterlinck

The family musical “Blue, Blue Bird” directed by Oleg Glushkov was inspired by a play written by Belgian playwright Maurice Maeterlinck. This new season’s premiere is a bright show with stunts and visual effects telling the story of a girl named Matilda and her brother Til who set out on a fairytale journey.

Dreaming with the protagonist of “Dreams by the Sea”

The Documentary Film Centre will screen the film “Dreams by the Sea” directed by Sakaris Stora from the Faroe Islands. The protagonist, Ester, is a very young girl from a religious family, who meets a girl of the same age who moved to the island from far away. This meeting changes Eater’s life and makes her dream about better days.

Travelling around the world

“The Mercy” is a film based on a true story. A British amateur sailor decides to complete the Sunday Times race around the world. The film stars Colin Firth, Rachel Weisz and David Thewlis. The director is James Marsh.

Celebrating St Patrick’s Day

Moscow has been marking St Patrick’s Day with an entertaining parade for 25 years. Thousands of people of different ages and nationalities turn out to watch it traditionally dressed up in something green: hats, shoes or scarves. Some people also paint their faces green. No tickets are required as everything is free of charge. However, there does seem to be a dress code: green clothes or accessories.

Watching cartoons by Manabu Himeda

Where: Moskino cinema network

Manabu Himeda was born in Miyazaki Prefecture. He started working with animation, dreaming to become an anchor of a children’s television programme. The artist will hold a workshop with characters from his cartoons, present his best works and answer questions from the audience at the Zvezda and Yunost cinemas. Pre-registration is required

Watching a film about Marina Abramovic’s New York exhibition

Where: Zvezda Cinema

The documentary film “Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present” is about the artist’s controversial exhibition at the New York Museum of Modern Art. The film was shot in 2012 by Matthew Akers and Jeff Dupre.

Exhibition visitors did not only see the exhibits but took part in the artist’s events. During one such session everybody sat down at a table in front of motionless Marina and simply looked into her eyes.
