As many as 10.5 million people visited the New Year festivals that were held in Moscow between 30 December and 8 January, including the Journey to Christmas Festival and other events held in parks.
The Journey to Christmas Festival was held for the fifth time. This year, it was devoted to the world of the theatre.
The 83 festival venues were decorated with sparkling boxes featuring the Nutcracker and ballerinas, as well as theatre masks, fans and chandeliers, plus the arcs that were modelled to look like the Bolshoi and Maly theatres and the Hermitage.
The programme included ice and street theatre shows, concerts and workshops together with traditional winter activities and interactive events. Christmas kiosks sold souvenirs, New Year tree decorations, mittens, hats and also scarves.
