People will be able to really enjoy themselves during the New Year festivities in all Moscow administrative areas. The Moscow Department of Culture has prepared a special New Year programme for everyone in the city. Its main theme is the theatre. From 30 December to 3 January, 12 Moscow administrative areas will host plays, performances and concerts given by famous groups. The design of each venue will resemble the décor of one of Moscow’s famous theatres: the Bolshoi Theatre, the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre, the Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre, and many others too.
“The New Year festivities will be held every day from 3 pm to 9 pm. On 31 December, New Year’s Eve, they will be held until 2 am, while in Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve and Sokolniki Park, they will be held until 3 am,” said a representative from the Moscow Department of Culture.
In the Northeastern Administrative Area, the New Year celebrations will be held at Cosmonauts Alley by the VDNKh metro station. The design of this venue will resemble the architecture and décor of the Bolshoi Theatre. The venue’s stage will host a performance called Old Tales with A New Twist, where the main characters of old fairytales will find themselves in 21 century Moscow. During the concert there will be performances given by Misha Marvin, Quest Pistols Show, DJ Vini, Kravtz, Bazil, Natella, DJ Portnov, Yegor Kreed, Natan, Yulianna Karaulova, bands Marsel, Gradusy and many others as well.
In the Eastern Administrative Area, the New Year festivities will be held in Sokolniki and Izmailovsky parks. In Sokolniki Park, people will be greeted by characters from fairytales written by Alexander Pushkin. The design of the venue will resemble the décor of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre. There will be performances given by Natan, Yulianna Karaulova, Sasha Santa, DJ Klubkilla, Denis Maidanov, DJ Groove, Alexander Buinov, Natella, Vadim Chebanov, Yelena Temnikova, Stas Piekha, Kvatro and Pizza bands as well as many others.
Samuil Marshak’s tale Twelve Months will become the main theme of the celebrations held in Izmailovsky Park. This year marks the 70th anniversary of its first production held in the Moscow Youth Theatre. The design of the park’s main square will resemble the interior of the Vakhtangov Theatre. In the park there will also be performances given by Lena Katina, DJ Portnov, Natan, DJ Legran, Alexei Vorobyov, bands Gradusy, 23:45, Otpetyye Moshenniki, Dve Mashi and many more.
In the Northwestern Administrative Area, the New Year festivities will be held in Mitino landscape park. The Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre became the inspiration behind this venue’s design. Between 30 December and 3 January, there will be a family festival called Tales of a Magic Forest. It will also host performances by Emma M, Denis Maidanov, DJ Scream One, Daniil Ivanov, Yelena Terleyeva, Nina Shatskaya, DJ Davlad, Andrei Grizzly, Rita Dakota, MBand and many others.
In the Western Administrative Area, residents of the Vnukovo town will be able to celebrate New Year at 6 Bolshaya Vnukovskaya Street (territory by the local House of Culture – mos.ru). Just like in Izmailovsky Park, the play Twelve Months will take place. The venue will be decorated to resemble the interior of the Moscow Operetta Theatre. It will also host performances by Diana Gurtskaya, DJ M. Hustler, Doni, Vadim Chebanov, Irina Dubtsova, DJ Scream One, Alexei Goman, Mark Tishman, Bazil, Denis Maidanov, MBand and many others.
The largest venue for New Year will be located at Yekaterininsky Park in the Central Administrative Area. Its central part’s design will resemble the Moscow Puppet Theatre. All shows at this venue will be dedicated to Soviet animation. The lists of artists invited to perform includes Mot, Bianka, DJ Nejtrino, Prokhor Shalyapin, Rita Dakota, Diana Gurtskaya, DJ Denis Rook, Kravtz, Gleb Matveichuk, Natan, DJ Portnov, Alexei Vorobyov, DJ Fashion, Yulianna Karaulova, Alexei Goman, DJ Legran, and Chelsi and Dve Mashi as well.
During the festive days, anyone visiting Tsaritsyno open-air museum in the Southern Administrative Area will be able to listen to works by Alexander Pushkin and the experience the atmosphere of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre. Apart from New Year performances and plays, visitors will be able to enjoy summer vibes as well: at the reserve’s First Greenhouse, they will be able to see the New Year Flower Show, with blossoming crocuses, daffodils, lilac and cherry blossoms. There will be performances by Nyusha, DJ Kirillch, Geegun, DJ Audio Girls, Dante, Vlad Sokolovsky, bands Burito, Dve Mashi, 23:45, Artik & Asti, and many others.
In Southwestern Administrative Area, the venue for New Year festivities will be located at 11 Znamenskiye Sadiki Street. The territory of the shopping centre located by the venue will be transformed to resemble the interior of the Kolobov New Opera Theatre. The venue will host plays based on Russian folk tales, as well as performances by Alexei Vorobyov, Rita Dakota, DJ Denis Rock, Andrei Grizli, Quest Pistols Show, DJ Denis Polyakoff, Alina Artts, Bianka, Diana Gurtskaya, band Chelsi and many others.
Residents of the Southeastern Administrative Area will be able to enjoy New Year festivities at Kukhmisterov Street. There, behind the renovated Tula cinema, the city will hold a Snow Queen-themed family festival. This year marks the 60th anniversary of this legendary animated film directed by Lev Atamanov. The decorations were designed to resemble the Helicon-Opera Moscow Musical Theatre. The venue will also host performances by Alexei Goman, Yelena Temnikova, DJ Davlad, Alina Artts, Olga Kormukhina, Alexei Belov, DJ Bobina, Prokhor Shalyapin, Yin-Yang, and many others.
As part of a long-standing tradition, people in the Zelenograd Administrative Area will celebrate New Year on Central Square. The territory of the square will be decorated to resemble the interior of the Maly Theatre – the oldest theatre in Russia. Here people will be greeted by characters from tales by Alexander Pushkin. This venue will host performances by DJ Legran, Feduk, Ruslan Alekhno, DJ Denis Rock, ST, Alexei Goman, bands Marsel, Dve Mashi, Mojito, 5sta Family, and many others.
In the Troitsky and Novomoskvoretsky Administrative Areas, the city will create venues in Voronovskoye and Moskovskoye rural towns. There, visitors will be greeted by characters from Morozko and Frau Holle fairy tales. The venue in Voronovskoye will be decorated to resemble the Mayakovsky Theatre, while the design of the venue in Moskovskoye will resemble the Lenkom Theatre. The list of artists to perform at these venues includes Kravtz, DJ Niki, Vlad Sokolovsky, Elvira T, DJ Vini, DJ Phil, Yelena Temnikova, groups Pizza, Mayakovsky, Friendy, Gradusy, Kvatro, 5sta Family and many others.
The city will create venues for celebrating the New Year in Moscow parks, too. Almost every park in the city has already developed its own festive programme. On the night of 31 December and 1 January, people will be able to see the fortune telling installation in Gorky Park, enjoy the Vysotsky Style In-Home Concert inTagansky Park and a tangerine party in Krasnaya Presnya Park.
From 22 December to 14 January, the Journey to Christmas festival will be held in Moscow. Performances, plays, concerts and workshops will take place on the city streets, boulevards as well as squares every day. The list of the festival’s main venues includes Tverskaya Street, Red Square, Manezhnaya and Tverskaya squares, Revolyutsii Square, Rozhdestvenka Street, Arbat Street, Novy Arbat Street, Kamergersky Pereulok, Tverskoi and Gogolevsky boulevards, Klimentovsky Pereulok and Novopushkinsky Public Garden. For the first time ever, a refurbished Garden Ring will present a festival programme of its very own.
This year, Moscow was rated one of the top five most interesting tourist destinations for the upcoming winter holiday season, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). The publication selected the Russian capital thanks to its Journey to Christmas festival.
