Twelve overpasses above railways have been built or renovated in Moscow in four years.

A new overpass connects 2nd Yuzhnoportovy Proyezd and Yuzhnoportovaya Street. The overpass runs above the Moscow Railway’s Kurskaya Line. It was opened by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

“This road is very important, because it crosses the railway lines. Today we have a straight connection from Kozhukhovskaya metro station, something people have been waiting for,” said Andrei Tsybin, Prefect of the Southeastern Administrative Area.

The Moscow Mayor asked the general contractor about the project.

“It’s 100 percent ready for the traffic, and we have the operation permit,” said Stroiputinvest CEO Nikolai Sudakov.

Sergei Sobyanin also asked Anrei Tsybin to renovate Shosseinaya Street. Residents were complaining about the local pavements and roads on the Our City website.

“I’m asking you to do some more work here. And please, deal with the head of the district and the local council. Focus on the pavements,” said the Mayor.

Yuzhnoportovaya Street leads to the Southern Port and several industrial zones near the Pechatniki and Yuzhnoportovy districts, but the large number of turns and indirect routing made traffic movement difficult. It was decided to straighten a section of the road with the new overpass.

According to First Deputy Head of the City Department of Construction Pyotr Aksyonov, the new overpass will decrease driving time, “This is a small section, but very advantageous for those who need it.”

According to Aksyonov, it will be ten times faster. “The estimated capacity is 5,000 cars per hour,” Pyotr Aksyonov noted.

Construction began in May 2016 and took a year and a half. The 156 metre overpass is two lanes wide (one each way). Sections of 2nd Yuzhnoportovy Proyezd and Yuzhnoportovaya Street have also been renovated.

A 3.2 metre-wide pavement (sidewalk) with ramps, tactile pavers and lowered curbs for people with disabilities was included.

About 15.7 km of utility lines were also relocated.

“This is one of the most difficult elements in any project. However, our contractor completed all the work quickly; we built an important overpass that’s necessary for the Southeastern Administrative Area’s prefecture and for Moscow, in 14 months instead of 18,” said Pyotr Aksyonov.

The new overpass will connect Pechatniki and Yuzhnoportovy districts and will also provide easy access to Kozhukhovskaya metro station on the (Light Green) Line 10.

And in the future this overpass will become a part of a new road from the Third Ring Road through Yuzhnoportovy, Pechatniki, Maryino and Brateyevo districts to the Moscow Ring Road and further to Kashirskoye Motorway.

In total, 12 overpasses above railway tracks have been constructed or renovated in Moscow in four years.

The overpasses over the railway lines are part of the Moscow Central Circle project and were based on agreements between the Moscow Government and Russian Railways.

As a result, six overpasses have been built over the MCC: Leningradsky, Mozhaisky, Zvenigorodsky, Volokolamsky, Koptevsky and Bogorodsky. The rest were built over regional lines:

— overpass on the 7th km of the Paveletskaya Line near Nizhniye Kotly station;

— overpass on the 34th km of the Kurskaya Line in Shcherbinka;

— overpass on the 18th km of the Kievskaya Line (Peredelkino).

— overpass on the 33rd of the Kievskaya Line (Kokoshkino);

— overpass on the 36th km of the Kievskaya Line (Kryokshino).

— overpass between 2nd Yuzhnoportovy Proyezd and Yuzhnoportovaya Street.
