Dynamo Stadium to open in April 2018
The new stadium’s football pitch opened on famed goalkeeper Lev Yashin’s birthday.

The sports centre at Petrovsky Park, which includes the Dynamo football stadium, will open in April 2018, said Andrei Peregudov, head of VTB Arena Park.

He said the first match to be played at Dynamo Stadium will be the Russian national team’s last practice match before the world championship. The Russian team will likely play the Italian team in the practice match.

The stadium at Petrovsky Park was closed for renovation in 2008. The 2018 FIFA World Cup matches will be held between 14 June and 15 July in Moscow, St Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Kazan, Sochi and other cities.

The main cup matches will be played at the Luzhniki Grand Sport Arena, which will host the cup’s opening and closing ceremonies, as well as seven matches, including a semi-final and the final.

The opening ceremony for the football pitch was held on 22 October, Lev Yashin’s birthday. It was named symbolically, The Past, the Present, the Future, and involved three generations of Dynamo players: veterans, active players and cadets from Dynamo’s football academy.

The pitch will be named after Lev Yashin, one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

The grass and the seats are ready. The seats are installed in the form of Dynamo’s symbols: two gold stars and the letter D, but can be also used to make the inscription “Dynamo Moscow.”
