Mobile planetarium to open at Vystavochnaya metro station
Passengers of the Moscow Metro will be able to see educational films about space on 3–10 October.

The 3-metre-high and 5-metre-wide dome of the mobile planetarium will be installed near Vystavochnaya metro station on 3 October. The half-sphere screen will show short educational films about space. The improvised cinema hall will feature the Churyumov–Gerasimenko comet discovered in 1969 by Soviet astronomers, the dark side of the Moon and the planets of the solar system.

“The mobile planetarium’s installation at one of the metro stations is timed for the annual International Space Week, which has taken place on 4–10 October since 1999. This is a joint project with the Moscow Metro,” the spokesperson of the Moscow Planetarium said.

The dome at Vystavochnaya station will be open every day from 10 am to 6 pm. Entrance is free, on a first-come, first-served basis. Each film lasts from 9 to 26 minutes. The hall can hold 15 people. Visitors will sit on cushions.

The progamme includes short films shown at the Moscow Planetarium: “Rosetta” about the Churyumov–Gerasimenko comet, as well as “Amazing Journey Around the Solar System” and “Back to the Moon Forever,” both about space. Besides the educational films, visitors will be able to see a 10-minute-long video, “Flight of Fantasy,” during which they will learn what a parachute jump feels like and get inside a spaceship.
