Since the beginning of this season’s bicycle rental programme, Muscovites and visitors have taken a record two million bike rides. Last year, the number of rentals with the city bike-share service reached 1.6 million and in 2015 it totaled 880,000.
“From the start of bicycle rental season, two million rides have been taken on city rental bikes. This is a record for the city’s bike-share service. Remarkably, it was set prior to the season’s end. Opening of streets renovated under the My Street programme will bring more cyclers to city streets in September,” said Deputy Mayor, Head of the Moscow Department for Transportation and Road Infrastructure Development Maxim Liksutov.
The bike-share programme in Moscow was launched in 2013 with about 79 rental stations on the Boulevard Ring and on Frunzenskaya Embankment. Currently, there are 380 rental points. Every year, the number will increase by 50 new stations and 500 more bicycles. By 2019, there will be 480 bike-share stations with 4,600 bicycles. The system will be expanded in the Western, Northern, Eastern, Southeastern and Southwestern administrative areas.
