According to the Moscow Centre for Museum Development, the Museum and City festival will be held in the courtyard of the Museum of Moscow during the anniversary celebrations. There will be an exhibition dedicated to the history of the city featuring stories about outstanding Muscovites.

The State Darwin Museum will offer a free exposition of underwater photos taken in different world oceans and seas. On view will also be unusual terrarium inhabitants – tropical scorpions, giant cockroaches, spiders, butterflies and stick insects.

The Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve will present archaeological findings discovered on the museum premises during excavation. These are decorations, household items, coins made of precious metals, and fragments of ancient stone structures. The museum will also offer an exhibition of animalistic art consisting of sculptures and paintings of the 19th-20th centuries.

Ilya Glazunov’s picture gallery will host a display on social estates in the Russian Empire. It includes canvases depicting peasant’s daily life as well the life of the nobility and clergy. On view will also be the painter’s illustrations of writer Nikolai Leskov’s works.

“To visit any of the city museums, you need to get a free ticket at the ticket office. To do so, you neither have to produce any documents nor register in advance. To go on free guided excursions in the museums on 9-10 September, you must register in advance, though,” said a representative of the Moscow Centre for Museum Development.

In all, Moscow museums and parks will hold about 200 free tours on City Day. Over 4,000 visitors are expected to come. Guests at the Kuskovo Estate, for example, will learn the history of the famous palace and its first owner, Count Pyotr Sheremetev. The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art will offer an architecture walking tour of Gorky Park, and the Pushkin State Museum will lead a walking excursion around Arbat Street. Those interested can sign up at the museums or at special stands of the Moscow Tour project near seven metro stations.
