Reaching Moscow’s four airports quickly and in style
The city now has four international airports: Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky. This story talks about reaching them conveniently and on time.

Sheremetyevo International Airport

Aeroexpress and commuter trains

Aeroexpress trains that are unaffected by bad weather and traffic congestion remain the fastest and most convenient way to reach the airport. The first trains depart Belorussky Railway Station at 5.30 am, the last one leaving at 12.30 am. The first train departs from the airport at 5 am, the last one leaving at 12.30 am. Trip time is 35 minutes.

Once at the airport, passengers can walk to terminals E, D and F via a pedestrian gallery. They can present a preprinted boarding pass or printed itinerary to board free buses for terminals B and C.

There is no direct commuter train link with the airport. However, one can use commuter train service from Savyolovsky Railway Station to Lobnya station, then take Shuttle No. 21.

Buses and shuttles

Trip times depend on the traffic, but average about 50 minutes. Buses and shuttles link Sheremetyevo with Rechnoi Vokzal metro station on the Zamoskvoretskaya Line (Green Line) and Planernaya metro station on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya Line (Purple Line).

The following buses/shuttles go to the airport: 851, 851E and Shuttle 949 near Rechnoi Vokzal metro station. Bus 851 operates from 5.37 am until 12.49 am, with service intervals of about 9-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Shuttle 949 reaches the airport in 30-40 minutes. The shuttle vans run from 6.45 am until 9.45 pm, with 10-20-minute intervals, leaving as soon as they are full. Air & Bus shuttles run from 5 am until 10.30 pm.

Passengers can reach the airport from Planernaya metro station on bus 817. The first bus departs at 5.22 am, with the last one leaving at 12.08 am. Also, Shuttle 948 operating from 6.45 am until 9.45 pm is available, as is the N1 late-night bus route that links Ozyornaya Street with the airport, via the entire city. The route passes near the Yugo-Zapadnaya, Prospekt Vernadskogo, Universitet, Leninsky Prospekt and Oktyabrskaya stations on the metro’s Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya Line, the Kitai-Gorod, Biblioteka imeni Lenina and Lubyanka metro stations, as well as all stations on the Zamoskvoretskaya Line, from Belorusskaya to Rechnoi Vokzal.  These buses operate from 1 am until 5.30 am, with 30-minute service intervals.

All buses stop at terminals B, F, E and D, while the shuttles pass the terminals in a different order: F, E, D and B.

Taxicabs, car-sharing plans and driving

Drivers can reach the airport from central Moscow via Leningradskoye Motorway and then via Mezhdunarodnoye Motorway in about 50 minutes, depending on traffic. Paying 250 roubles to use the M11 toll-way is a faster alternative.

Car parks are available near airport terminals. Passengers with disabilities are served free of charge.

Drivers don’t have to drive their own cars to the airport. Car-share cars are an alternative. It is possible to park the cars free of charge near F terminal. The parking card is located in a sun-visor pocket above the driver’s seat.

Taxis are also available. They are particularly popular during night hours. Economy-class cabs will whisk you to the airport for 1,000 roubles, on average.

Vnukovo International Airport

Aeroexpress and commuter trains

Airport passengers will use Kievsky Railway station’s first entrance to reach the platform. The first trains depart Moscow and the airport at 6 am, with the last one leaving at midnight. Trip times are 40 minutes, with  departures every hour on the hour. Aeroexpress trains arrive at an underground station at Vnukovo’s Terminal A. To reach terminals B and D, go out, turn left and walk down the hallway.

Buses and shuttles

Yugo-Zapadnaya has been the nearest metro station. It can be reached (from the airport) on bus 611 that runs from 5.30 am to 1.20 am. The trip lasts about 40 minutes, traffic allowing. Passengers can now save time by using the newly-opened Troparyovo, Rumyantsevo and Salaryevo metro stations. Take bus 272 from Salaryevo; the first bus departs at 5.11 am, the last one at 12.20 am.


Reach the airport via Kievskoye Motorway, the fastest route, or the Borovskoye and Minskoye motorways. The route diagram and car park locations are posted on the airport’s website. Taxis can be ordered at counters on the main floor of the airport’s terminals A and B.

Domodedovo Moscow Airport

Aeroexpress and commuter trains

Every 30 minutes, Aeroexpress trains leave for Domodedovo airport from Paveletsky Railway Station, reaching it 45 minutes later. The first train departs at 6 am, the last airport-bound train leaves at 12.30 am, with the last Moscow-bound train departing at midnight. The Aeroexpress trains platform is located near the domestic arrivals hall exit. Slower commuter trains will also reach the airport in about 70 minutes.

Buses and shuttles

Busses are available near Domodedovskaya metro station and take 30-40 minutes to get there, traffic willing. Bus 308 stops near the last outbound train carriage. They come and go every 15 minutes from 6 am to midnight, with shuttles running through the night at 40 minute intervals.

Special buses link terminals and car parks, and the schedule is posted on the airport’s website.

Driving and taxicabs

Domodedovo airport can be reached by car or taxi via the A105 motorway. Use exit No. 25 from the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD). A large car park is available.

Taxi counters will be found in the domestic and international arrivals areas and in the terminal’s mixed zone near exit No. 3. Arriving passengers can choose from among several taxi operators, vehicle models and routes. After paying for the trip, riders will receive a receipt and a trip coupon, with the driver helping load luggage to the trunk.

Zhukovsky International Airport

Access to this airport is still limited. But, take a commuter train from Kazansky Railway Station in central Moscow to Otdykh platform, a 45-50 minute trip. Then take a shuttle to the airport.

From the metro, (Kotelniki metro station) it will take about 30 minutes on bus 441E to get to Zhukovsky airport.

Helping people with disabilities

People with disabilities can travel to the airports on public transit. While in the metro, they will be escorted by employees of the Passenger Mobility Centre, with Aeroexpress officials taking over at the Belorusskaya, Paveletskaya and Kievskaya metro stations. Personal assistants will help passengers buy tickets, board trains, store luggage, and escort passengers to check-in counters at airports.

People in need of escort services, need to call the Passenger Mobility Centre at +7 (495) 622 7341, and they can hire personal assistants online or by calling +7 (800) 700 3377. This service is free for those with a metro or Aeroexpress ticket.
