Renovations under the My Street programme have started on Bolshaya Lubyanka Street. The street will not be closed, but traffic will be restricted along the two outer lanes for the duration of the work. Two lanes, one in each direction, will remain open to traffic.
Road sections to be repaired on Bolshaya Lubyanka are blocked off by protective barriers. In addition, the work zones are marked by special lights to make them more noticeable for motorists at night. Pedestrians will use wooden walkways along the street with access to buildings.
City utilities services have already prepared Bolshaya Lubyanka for general improvements. They have repaired the water supply network and storm drains on the street, and laid vaults for moving overhead wires underground. The owners of 23 buildings have repaired the facades. Now working teams are installing kerbstones on Bolshaya Lubyanka Street and laying the base for paving. On some sections they are already putting down granite tiles.
Bolshaya Lubyanka Street is an important stretch of walking routes in central Moscow, connecting the Kremlin Ring and Kuznetsky Most Street with the Boulevard Ring and Sretenka Street. Now the pavements on Bolshaya Lybyanka are too narrow, and the lighting too dim. After improvements under the My Street programme, the pavements will become wider, from two-and-a-half to five metres wide in different parts of the street, and more suitable for walking. The four-lane road will have the same number of lanes after the renovation. However, two of them (one in each direction) will only be available for public transport. The My Street programme also provides for renewing the lighting system on Bolshaya Lubyanka Street. Over 40 new street lamps with energy saving bulbs will be installed there. In addition, the street will get areas for summer cafe terraces. The street improvements are to be completed by City Day.
This year, the My Street programme covers over 80 city territories. Works on most streets are under way. On some streets repairs are nearing completion, for example, on the Kremlin Ring.
