2017 My Street improvement plans include 87 sites, including embankments, squares and boulevards
The My Street project will run through 2018, however, the main parts of it in central Moscow will already be completed this year. Mos.ru is publishing a list of the sites to be renovated this year.

The My Street project plans for this year include 87 sites, including streets, boulevards, embankments and squares. Their implementation began in the small hours of 19 March on some sections of the Kremlin and Boulevard Rings, the Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment and Petrovka Street (from Karetny Ryad to Petrovskiye Linii Street).

The project will gather momentum in April and will proceed in stages, from laying new communications to broadening pavements, renovating building façades and installing new energy- efficient street lights.

The embankment curve

One of the priorities this year is to improve 12 embankments: Krasnopresnenskaya, Rostovskaya, Smolenskaya, Savvinskaya, Bolotnaya, Kotelnicheskaya, Goncharnaya, Prechistenskaya, Luzhnetskaya, Moskvoretskaya, Andreyevskaya and Yakimanskaya. New trees will be planted to divide the road from the pedestrian zone, and the broadened pavements will become an integrated pedestrian and bicycle area with recreation sites and viewing platforms. Taken together, the embankments will form a semi-circular arc of pedestrian areas by the river.

Kremlin, Boulevard and Garden rings

The renovation plans include the two remaining parts of the Kremlin Ring – Novaya Square and Kitaigorodsky Proyezd. The public garden will be improved, too.

The improvement of the Boulevard Ring, which was launched last year, will be completed this year. Plans cover both sides of the Gogolevsky, Pokrovsky and Yauzsky boulevards. Only the odd-numbered side of the Nikitsky, Tverskoi, Strastnoi, Rozhdestvensky, Chistoprudny and other boulevards will be renovated. Building façades and signboards will be repainted. A long straight path will be organised in the central part of the boulevards and separated from the pedestrian zones by trees. Additional pedestrian crossings will be established.

The renovation of the Garden Ring will be completed this year. The focus will be on squares: Samotechnaya, Zemlyanoi Val, Smolenskaya, Smolenskaya-Sennaya, Malaya Sukharevskaya and Bolshaya Sukharevskaya. Krasnye Vorota Square will be planted with oak, maple, lime, larch, pine and rowan trees. These places will be lit by lamps and have comfortable street furniture.

Zaryadye Park and the Museum Quarter

The My Street plans for future Zaryadye Park provide for improving the adjacent Varvarka Street and Kitaigorodsky Proyezd. The park’s walking areas will logically continue into a new pedestrian zone that will be established between Varvarka and Nikolskaya streets. It will run through Rybny Pereulok, Birzhevaya Square and Bogoyavlensky Pereulok. Birzhevaya Square with a fountain will form the core of the new pedestrian zone.

Lubyanskaya Square will be rebuilt from a transit hub into an area comfortable for pedestrians, and Volkhonka Street will become a museum quarter. An integrated area will be created from Kropotkinskaya Metro Station to Prechistenskaya Embankment. The pavements on Volkhonka Street will be broadened.

Entries and streets near metro stations and Luzhniki Stadium

The renovation plans include “city gates”: the entry sections of the Altufyevskoye and Shchelkovskoye motorways, Michurinsky Prospekt and Ryazansky Prospekt and the Entuziastov Motorway. The seven entry sections renovated last year include the junctions of the MKAD with Varshavskoye, Mozhaiskoye, Leningradskoye, Yaroslavskoye, Rublyovskoye and Kashirskoye motorways and Leninsky Prospekt. Grass was planted and architectural lighting was installed in these areas.

Places near Metro Stations Barrikadnaya, Krasnopresnenskaya, Sokol and Akademicheskaya will be improved this year. The renovation plans for Luzhniki Stadium include Luzhnetskaya Embankment (from the Third Ring Road to Luzhniki Street) and Luzhniki Street (from Luzhnetskaya Embankment to Luzhnetsky Bridge).

The My Street programme was launched in 2014. It is the largest improvement project in Moscow’s modern history. Its purpose is to serve the people and establish a balance between transport accessibility and comfortable living. Last year’s renovation plans covered 61 streets in central Moscow, including Novy Arbat, Tverskaya, Znamenka, Malaya Dmitrovka and Taganskaya streets.
