Jugglers, athletes, stilt walkers and brass bands, workshops in starling nest box making, wickerwork and drawing, an exhibition of retro cars, physics and chemistry experiments with sand, ice and paper, and many other fascinating events await visitors.

On 26 March, the Burst into Spring festival will open the new season at Moscow parks. Music programmes, sports training sessions and excursions await visitors on Sunday from noon till 4:00 pm.

Jugglers and stilt walkers will greet the public at the main entrance to Sokolniki Park. At noon, the Maracatu drum band will start performing on the Rotunda stage. From 12:15 pm till 2:00 pm, the Invisible Sokolniki tours will be held, during which visitors will learn how Russian tsars and emperors hunted and amused themselves, when Peter the Great staged the first May outdoor festivities, and other interesting facts from the park’s history.

Dance and music shows will begin at 2:00 pm. There will be a karaoke festival, “Sing in Unison with the World” at Fountain Square. Visitors can choose a song and sing a duet with any person in any country, using a special application.

Fit-Show, a festival of physical fitness, healthy living and active leisure, will present novelty fitness products at the Sokolniki Congress and Exhibition Centre. The programme includes gala performances, outdoor training sessions, and lectures on a healthy way of life and sports activities.

The Most Weekend festival at Gorky Park promises, among other things, an exhibition of retro sports cars and a thrilling music programme. Visitors will have a delightful opportunity to pose for the camera in front of a Burst into Spring art installation on the park’s embankment.

The festival will begin on Pushkinskaya Embankment and beneath the Krymsky Bridge on Saturday. Guests will be invited to prepare flower beds on Krymskaya Embankment to the inspiring accompaniment of a DJ, and they will also be able get some new ideas for their dachas during lectures on landscape design. Young poets will recite their poems at Muzeon’s wooden terrace. Soft spring fusion from Platinum Brass Band will flow beneath the bridge.

Interesting new food trucks will stay open throughout the weekend.

To truly burst into spring, Most Weekend will continue on Sunday at an even higher gear. Ultra-modern collectible Japanese cars of the Fast and Furious class lined up on Pushkinskaya Embankment will echo the pulse of the city, while American retro automobiles will strike a gentler key in anticipation of a relaxing summer season in the park. Beats from the Hummer H2 body will electrify the public all day long. In the evening, there will a concert by a “secret” performer beneath the Krymsky Bridge.

Most Weekend’s schedule

  • 10 am-11:00 pm – a display of rare cars on Pushkinskaya Embankment. On one side, there will be souped-up Japanese cars: bright colours, powerful audio systems and flashy rims. On the other side, there will be classic American cars: Fords of all different generations, big engines and antique tyres;
  • noon-4:00 pm – Hummer H2 which doubles as a DJ setup, will play electrifying music during the day;
  • noon-5:00 pm – opening of the skateboard and longboard season. Free board rental for all;
  • 1:00 pm-4:00 pm – Freestyle Academy will run once an hour. An MC and a professional freestyler will teach the art of improvisation;
  • 3:00 pm-4:00 pm – the most powerful car audio system will become the centre of a dance podium on which dancers will clash in a battle, like the film “Step Up”;
  • 5:00 pm-6:00 pm – musical warm-up;
  • 6:00 pm-7:00 pm – concert by a “secret” performer, a well-known rapper, whose name will be disclosed within just a few hours of the concert.

Events marking World Water Day will be held at Krasnaya Presnya Park. Also, there will be workshops in starling nest box making, wickerwork and drawing, conducted by the Your Own Paths club, a lecture called “Water. Life. Processes”, and physics and chemistry experiments with sand, ice and paper at a tent pavilion on Maly Island.

The same day, from noon till 6:00 pm, there will be a concert on the park’s stage, featuring Yelena Serdyukova, Vasily Tverdokhlebov, Sergei Zass, Nikolai Shulayev, Yekaterina Morozova and other performers. For dance lovers, there will be workshops in Brazilian axe. Visitors will also learn the basic moves of other Latino dances (bachata, salsa, samba and zouk).

The Fest Vacations festival in Hermitage Garden will mark the beginning of spring school vacations. A programme of games, “In the Footsteps of the White Rabbit”, as well as funny sports competitions and workshops await young visitors. Children will learn about ballet shoe painting and try to create Wonderful Garden installations of their own.

Theatre workshops devoted to Cultural Worker’s Day will begin at Babushkinsky Park at 4:00 pm.

Rental centres offering a wide choice of sports gear have already opened in seven parks. Bicycles, roller-skates, scooters and segways can be rented at Victory, Krasnaya Presnya, Sadovniki, Kuzminki, Izmailovsky, Perovsky and Babushkinsky parks.

In March-April, similar rental centres will appear in most green areas of the city. At Sokolniki, they will open in stages from 1 April to 1 May. At Tagansky and Severnoye Tushino parks, sports equipment rental will be available starting from 1 April, and in Gorky Park – from 1 May.

By 1 May, tennis tables will be installed at Hermitage Garden. The tables will be free of charge for all from 10:00 am till 10:00 pm, but there will be a refundable fee for paddles.
