Moscow will hold an auction for 16 melon-selling points in five administrative areas. Successful bidders will get the right to sell melons and watermelons in the following administrative areas for five years: Northern, Northeastern, Southern, Troitsky and Novomoskovsky.
The tender is organized by the Moscow Department of Competitive policy in two rounds on 5 and 12 April, with the respective application deadlines on 31 March and 7 April. Authorities believe that competition will be high because Muscovites will be eager to buy melons from the Central Chernozemye, Lower Volga, and other South Russian regions.
According to the Head of the Department for Competitive Policy Gennady Dyogtev, 53 trading plots were sold through tenders in 2016. “The average SOB usually increased by 180 percent. There were four bidders on average, which means this is a popular way of doing business,” he said.
Winners will be responsible for setting up trading areas according to the standards developed by the Committee on Architecture and Urban Planning. The City Advisor sections on mos.ru has information about requirements and documentation for melon-selling points, while the website of the Department for Competitive Policy, in its Bidding section, provides information on available trading plots and upcoming tenders.
