Drivers asked to use alternative routes due to My Street project
Preparatory work under the My Street programme has begun on the Kremlin Ring and Boulevard Ring, Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment and part of Petrovka Street.

The Integrated City Dispatch Centre (ICDC) has asked drivers to look for alternative routes after preparatory work, under the My Street programme, started in the early hours of 19 March. The work is underway on sections of the Kremlin Ring (on Novaya Square and on a section from Kitaigorodsky Proyezd to Ilyinka, along Ilyinsky public garden), the Boulevard Ring, as well as on Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, and a section of Petrovka Street from Karetny Ryad to Petrovskiye Linii.

These preparations are the best way to get the area ready for construction,” a spokesperson of the Moscow Department of Major Construction said.

The streets will not be blocked like a year ago, because work will be underway on the outer lanes and pavements (sidewalks). Still, the ICDC warns that traffic may be congested.

Motorists are asked to look for other routes. For instance, the Boulevard Ring can be bypassed on the Third Ring Road, and Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment through Taras Shevchenko Embankment.

The project areas will be fenced off and temporary road signs will be put up for the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

The My Street programme falls under the Moscow standard for street and public space improvement, that was adopted in 2015. It sets uniform standards for a people-friendly urban environment.

After the preparations are complete, the street improvement is set to begin. First, new underground piping, to move overhead cables underground, will be installed. Sidewalks will be widened, while no more traffic lanes will be added. Facades are expected to receive a facelift as well, while streetlights will have energy-saving lamps.

The clock-wise section of the Kremlin and Boulevard Rings from Arbatskaya Square to Pokrovka Street was updated last year. A special project has the before-and-after photos of the boulevards and Mokhovaya, Manezhnaya, Okhotny Ryad, and Teatralny Proyezd streets.

Over 80 public spaces are to be improved this year under the My Street programme. Last year, 61 streets were updated in Moscow’s centre.
