The Grand sports arena, Luzhniki Stadium, is expected to open by the end of the second quarter in 2017. Now, artistic exterior lighting is being designed and installed.

According to Head of the Department of Construction Andrei Bochkaryov, the main construction has been completed, the arena playing field has wintered well, and the grass has grown 15-17 centimetres. At this point, elevators, fencing, stairs and stands are being installed at the stadium.

Marat Khusnullin, Deputy Mayor for Urban Development and Construction, said the landscaping would begin in April.

In early March, the first facilities for the 2018 World Cup, including an accreditation centre and an entry inspection pavilion, were opened.

In 2018, Luzhniki Stadium will host the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup, the first match, a semifinal and the final game.
