About 100 entrepreneurs will be shortlisted for the Moscow Maslenitsa festival due on 17-26 February. The Department of Trade and Services will choose the best retail and catering companies at its expert session on 10 February. The expert group involves over 30 people, including public figures, industrial union representatives and government officials.
“We have to choose the best out of 332 applicants – 25 restaurants and about 70 retailers that will have the right to use the festival chalets,” said Alexei Nemeryuk, head of the Moscow Department of Trade and Services.
He said contenders offering the most unusual souvenirs and the most delicious pancakes will top the list. Quality and price will be among the most essential assessment criteria.
This year, the Moscow Maslenitsa festival will open the Moscow Seasons series of street festivities. Traditional Maslenitsa fairs will take place at 13 central Moscow sites. The programme features folk celebrations, sporting events, historical re-enactments, street theatre shows, and various master classes.
Festival stalls will offer folk art items, farm produce, dairy products, meat and fish delicacies, and confectionery.
