Defender of the Fatherland Day fireworks at 15 venues across the city
The Moscow sky will be lit with 300-metre domes of red, white and green sparkles.

The Defender of the Fatherland Day fireworks will go off at 15 city venues on the evening of 23 February. The bright spectacle will last ten minutes starting at 9 pm during which 10,000 salvos will be fired from 72 devices. Each fireworks explosion will be 300 metres in diameter. The evening sky will be iridescent with flashes of red, white and green sparkles.

“The explosive effect will be magnified with the firing of blanks from 18 76-mm field guns from the Great Patriotic War,” the Western Military District’s press service commented.

The press service announced that Poklonnaya Gora and Vorobyovy Gory will be the main fireworks venues. But 15 sites will allow people to see the display from any city district. Security checks have been conducted at each of the venues. Over 500 servicepersons will launch fireworks and ensure public order. They will set off all of the fireworks simultaneously via radio.

Defender of the Fatherland Day has been a state holiday whose celebration dates back to 1922.
