New Year décor and doodling: The best winter holiday workshops
Muscovites and city guests will be able to master different drawing techniques, make Christmas tree ornaments out of recyclable materials and preserve family archives. Mos.ru has selected workshops worth visiting during the New Year holidays.

Learn to embroider, knit and make clay angels at the Crafts of the Nation’s Soul workshop at library No. 52. Visitors will also learn recipes for festive dishes and get a grasp of floral art. Children meanwhile will be shown animated films about the New Year’s Eve. The class will start at 3 pm on 24 December.

At Zdes Gallery in the Taganka District, a class will be held on creating New Year décor by decorative artist Anzhela Shcherbakova. She will show visitors how to make stars, garlands and other paper ornaments. The event will begin at noon on 25 December.

Kuskovo eco-school will host two workshops on 25 December – TetraPak Wallets and New Year Tree Decorations out of Recyclable Materials. For the first class, guests must bring a clean and dry rectangular juice screw-top carton for making a wallet that can then be decorated with fabric, thick coloured paper and brooches. At the second class, visitors will be taught how to make unique New Year crafts from recyclable materials. The classes will run from noon till 2 pm.

Come to Gostiny Dvor for a master class in doodling and making Zentangle patterns. These are two areas of intuitive drawing. Doodling is translated from English as drawing with random lines, Zentangle is a method of creating patterned drawings. Both techniques are relaxing and help distract the mind. Guests will find out the difference between the two and get help with the first steps in drawing. The class is scheduled for 2 pm on 4 and 8 January.

Visitors at the GULAG History Museum will learn how to find information about their ancestors, preserve home archives and record family stories. The concepts of memory, family and tradition will be given special emphasis. The event will start at 2 pm on 5-8 January.
