Moscow Central Circle passengers can now pay for trips using Apple Pay. This can be done at ticket offices, ticket machines and directly through turnstiles. To pay, line up your iPhone or Apple Watch with a special reader, and the fare will be charged from the bank account linked to Apple Pay.
“Now any MCC passenger can pay the fare at ticket offices, ticket machines or directly through turnstiles using the most advanced payment method: Apple Pay. I’m sure that thanks to Apple Pay, the number of passengers using innovative payment services will increase significantly,” Deputy Mayor for transport and Road Infrastructure Development Maxim Liksutov said.
To use Apple Pay, you need to have an iPhone SE, iPhone 6 or the latest models of the Apple Watch. Internet access is not required: payment will be processed even if the 3G connection is unstable or non-existent.
Every Monday in December (12, 19 and 26) and on 31 December and 1 January, Mastercard users can use the new service free of charge. The purchase amount will be refunded to the card 10 minutes after being debited.
Apple Pay is safe, as the card number is not stored on a device or on Apple’s services. Instead, a unique account number is assigned to a smartphone or watch, which is encrypted and stored in the Secure Element chip on the device. Each transaction is authorised through a unique one-time secret code.
Bank cards are accepted at all metro and MCC stations. In 5.5 months, metro stations were equipped with over 1,900 terminals for contact and contactless online payment.
