The construction of a section of the Southern Expressway between Balaklavsky Prospekt and Proletarsky Prospekt will be completed in early 2018, according to Deputy Mayor for Urban Development and Construction Marat Khusnullin.
Under the project, a road overpass will be built at the intersection of Balaklavsky Prospekt and Varshavskoye Motorway, from which the expressway will run under the railway lines towards the Proletarsky Prospekt-Kantemirovskaya Street interchange.
“According to the plan, this section will be built in early 2018,” Mr Khusnullin said. “From this street, we will extend the expressway to Verkhinye Polya Street by widening the existing roads, and will do further work. Essentially, this will be a full-fledged alternative to the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD).”
The Southern Expressway will connect the western, southern and southeastern districts of Moscow. The expressway will run from the Moscow Ring Road via Rublyovskoye Motorway, Balaklavsky Prospekt, Varshavskoye Motorway and Kantemirovskaya Street towards Kashirskoye Motorway and further to Borisovskiye Prudy Street. The new thoroughfare will redistribute traffic flows and ease traffic on Proletarsky Prospekt and on Kashirskoye and Varshavskoye motorways.
Also under the project, Aminyevskoye Motorway and Ryabinovaya Street have been widened and the link between Mozhaiskoye Motorway and Michurinsky Prospekt has been extended.
