Unique 3D Battle of Moscow panorama to be installed at VDNKh

Visitors to the new exhibition will become immersed in the atmosphere of the biggest battle of the Great Patriotic War and experience the thrill of being part of history.

A unique 3D panorama called “Moscow. 1941. Counteroffensive” has opened at the “Russia, My History” historical park at the National Exhibition of Economic Achievements (VDNKh). The exhibition marking the 75^th anniversary of the Red Army’s counteroffensive on approaches to Moscow narrates the crucial battle that wrecked German generals’ plans to seize the capital of the Soviet Union.

The 3D exhibition has opened on the first anniversary of establishing the “Russia, My History” historical park. Admission is free from 20 December through 10 January.

Created by the Neva Battle Painter team from St Petersburg, this panorama ranks among five similar expositions in the world. This full-scale panorama makes it possible to become completely immersed in the atmosphere of the biggest battle of the Great Patriotic War.

Visitors will relive the tragic events of those days, watch the fighting on the approaches to Moscow, hear the sounds of battle, see real-life soldiers, equipment, weapons and combat vehicles, including a 76-mm Red Army divisional cannon, a German Panzer III tank and StuG III self-propelled gun, and much else.

Viewers will also experience a military engagement near Volokolamsk and another battle in the village of Ivanovskoye in late December 1941. They will also learn the details of the 64^th Detached Marine Infantry Brigade’s heroic feat.

The Battle of Moscow became the largest and one of the bloodiest engagements of the Great Patriotic War. During this battle, the Red Army completely thwarted the Nazi Blitzkrieg and shattered the myth of the Wehrmacht’s invincibility for the first time.

The defeat of the Nazi German forces near Moscow signaled an initial turn of the tide during World War II. The battle includes a defensive period, from 30 September through 5 December 1941, and the offensive period. The latter consists of the counteroffensive, from 6 December 1941 through 7 January 1942 and the all-out Soviet offensive, which took place from 8 January through 20 April 1942.
