Russian users to enjoy the MosTech.OS operating system

The Moscow Department of Information Technologies made the full version of their in-house operating system (OS), MosTech.OS accessible on the Mos.Hub platform. The Russian-made solution has been in use for years in Moscow schools and some departments. Now, all users in Russia can install the OS on their devices, while IT professionals are free to propose improvements to help the project develop further.
The MosTech platform has been developing in Moscow for years. It includes an ecosystem of over 50 solutions that form a single environment covering multiple applications: a data processing center platform, cybersecurity solutions, the Mos.Hub cloud development platform, workstation software and hardware under the proprietary MosTech brand. The MosTech.OS operating system installed on laptops, all-in-one desktops and interactive panels under the Moscow brand is the key part of the latter.
"Based on the Linux core, the operating system is fit for all types of users: individuals, businesses, the public sector, education institutions, and more. When developing it, we were focused on user convenience, making the interface and the interaction principles as similar as possible to the ones they are already familiar with. As a result, our OS can be easily integrated into the existing infrastructure, with no need for a prolonged adaptation period. Now MosTech.OS is available to users from all Russian regions, while IT professionals are free to not only use the already existing solution, but also to propose their own improvements," says Aleksey Anisimov, Head of Moscow Department of Information Technologies.
To make working with MosTech.OS easier, the operating system includes a package of services based on open-source solutions and fine-tuned to make them fit users' demands better. They include an e-mail client (MosTech.Mail) and office apps (MosTech.Office) to handle documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. They are compatible with popular file formats and the ODF government standard. On top of that, there is MosTech.Store: a catalogue of over 150 trusted apps, including office and education services, IT development solutions, graphics and multimedia editor platforms, games, and more. The MosTech.VCS video conference service and the MosTech.Cloud storage system are also available.

On July 21, 2026, Mostech.OS was included in the list of software for in-house use, established under Art.21 of the Law on the Status of the Capital of the Russian Federation, in line with the procedure approved by the Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation No.1936 dated 28.11.2025, On the list of Russian-made computer and database software developed by Russian legal entities for in-house use. That made MosTech.OS an official import substitution software, to be used on critical information infrastructure objects and in government-controlled information systems.
