Technopolis Moscow SEZ to launch production of dressings that replace the skin’s function
A Russian manufacturer of innovative sterile atraumatic dressings has received the resident status in the Technopolis Moscow Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The company plans to launch Russia’s first production facility in Moscow for medical devices designed for patients with epidermolysis bullosa, a rare genetic disorder, as announced by Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Moscow Mayor for Transport and Industry.
“On Sergei Sobyanin’s instructions, the city continues to develop the medical industry, providing Moscow residents and people in other regions with high-tech Russian-made medical devices. The new SEZ resident will establish full-cycle production of absorbent dressings for patients with epidermolysis bullosa. By 2030, the company will be producing more than one million dressings annually. Investment in the project will exceed 500 million rubles and 27 new jobs will be created,” Maxim Liksutov says.
Frater’s production facilities (part of the Pharmeco Group) cover about 900 square meters, including almost 300 square meters of cleanrooms. At this facility, the company will establish production of specialized dressings that act as a temporary skin substitute, reliably covering the wound surface and restoring its impaired barrier function.
For people with epidermolysis bullosa, these dressings effectively become a second skin. They maintain an optimal moisture level and protect damaged tissue from further injury. A soft silicone layer with adhesive properties adheres securely to the skin around the wound without sticking to the wound surface itself. This reduces the risk of tissue injury and decreases pain during dressing changes.
The dressings can be used for more than just epidermolysis bullosa: they can also be used to treat burns, pressure sores, trophic ulcers and postoperative, infected, weeping and other complex wounds. The product was developed by an international interdisciplinary team of scientists, doctors and technologists. Experts from the Butterfly Children Foundation also took part in the work.
“In a year and a half, we developed Russian-made atraumatic dressings that match the global standard of care for epidermolysis bullosa in their key properties. Our technology is unique: this is the first successful project anywhere in the world in the past 20 years to develop an equivalent of such dressings, and there are only a few production facilities of this level. At the Moscow SEZ, we are creating a world-class Russian system for comprehensive care of complex and chronic wounds,” says Albert Gaifullin, the company’s CEO.
In 2026, the Technopolis Moscow Special Economic Zone celebrates its 20 th anniversary. Over the past two decades, it has evolved from a launchpad for innovative developments into one of the country’s most important industrial hubs, bringing together companies that strengthen Russia’s technological sovereignty.
Today, more than 240 high-tech enterprises operate at the 10 sites of the Technopolis Moscow SEZ, which cover a total area of 430 hectares and span key strategic industries including microelectronics, instrument engineering, biomedicine, information technology, and robotics.
