The selection includes works by renowned photographer Pyotr Pavlov from the turn of the 20th century and contemporary photographs of family walks around the capital’s iconic locations.

To mark Moscow’s 879th anniversary, a themed section titled Happy Birthday, Moscow! has been added to the city’s Mosfoto media bank. It features two photo projects about the capital’s past, present and future.

The first photo project, Historical Images of Moscow, introduces photographs and sketches by Pyotr Pavlov, a renowned Russian photographer from the turn of the 20th century. He captured iconic places in the capital and scenes of urban life; his works were often exhibited in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod and received prestigious awards. The historical materials were provided by the Moscow Main Archive.

The second photo project, Moscow Through the Generations, is dedicated to family photo walks around iconic locations in the capital that appeal to both older generations of Muscovites and children. The photo shoots took place on Arbat Street and Novy Arbat, as well as at VDNKh, Northern River Station and Sokolniki Park.

The Moscow in Detail section was also updated for the celebrations. Users can assemble a photograph with a greeting from the capital from puzzle pieces, download the finished image and send it to their loved ones. Panoramic photographs of the city, images of Northern and Southern River Stations, the Friendship of Peoples Fountain at VDNKh, the renovated Leningradsky Railway Station, the innovative Matryoshka of Moscow landmark in Zaryadye Park and other city attractions were selected as backgrounds.

The city media bank also features photographs of streets and public spaces decorated for the City Day, as well as images of recently built and opened facilities.

All materials in Mosfoto are verified and legal to use. They can be downloaded for free, published on social networks, instant messengers or mass media and may also be used in presentations; however, users are required to refer to foto.mos.ru as the source.
