Cutting-edge Russia-made electric buses have been running on Moscow routes since 2018.

Moscow intensively expands its network of surface environmentally friendly public transport as the latest LiAZ electric buses run on five city routes (146, 814, 917, C891 and M89k) to date, says Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Moscow Mayor for Transport and Industry.

“We are launching newly supplied electric buses to serve our routes. Under the contract in place, another 100 innovative Russia-made vehicles will supplement Mosgortrans fleet in order to improve travel comfort and safety. More than 20 of the state-of-the-art LiAZ-6274 electric buses have started carrying passengers in the south and southwest of the capital. We are expanding our electric transport network as ordered by Sergei Sobyanin,” said Maxim Liksutov.

Cutting-edge Russia-made electric buses, which arrive at Mosgortrans fleet, have provided services on routes since 2018, replacing conventional buses and making rides more comfortable and environmentally friendly for passengers. They have a number of advantages, indeed, since using an electric bus instead of a conventional one reduces CO2 emissions by 60 tons per year, in addition to smooth ride, zero noise and vibration ensuring a better passenger experience. Additionally, for the convenience of passengers, the cabin features charging ports for gadgets and media screens with helpful route related information. This type of transport with a folding ramp and a driver call button for passengers with reduced mobility, as well as a storage area for strollers and bicycles is suitable for everyone, indeed.

Since 2022, the capital has received advanced electric vehicles that have adaptive interior shifting from cool to warm at 2:00 PM for passenger comfort. Made 18 per cent larger, their front route markers make the route number visible from a distance. The electric heater in the cabin produces no harmful effect on the environment and maintains the most desirable and satisfactory temperature. The range has been increased from 40–50 up to 80–90 kilometers, while the bus weight has remained the same.

Today, the electric buses are serviced at twelve Mosgortrans sites as Moscow was the first Russian city to open advanced electric bus garages. In 2022, Russia’s first-ever, Europe’s largest electric bus garage, Krasnaya Pakhra, was set in the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky Administrative Districts (TiNAO), its green vehicles offering services throughout TiNAO. A year later, they built the Mitino bus garage in the northwest for electric buses to run across 20 districts of the capital and two nearby cities in the Moscow Region. In late 2023, it was followed by the third innovation garage commonly known as Saltykovka for electric buses that provide passenger services in eastern Moscow.

With new deliveries and growing charging infrastructure, the city will see even more electric bus routes. All eco-friendly vehicles meet the most stringent standards in terms of both safety and services.
