The In the Cloud Cities technological progress zone on the new campus of Bauman Moscow State Technical University visitors can immerse themselves in the world of futuristic technologies.

Visitors to the Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030 forum can see and actually interact with innovations developed by scientists from Bauman Moscow State Technical University (MSTU) in partnership with media artists. The site features more than 10 interactive displays and art installations, most of which were developed jointly by the university and media artists. Visitors can not only see these objects, but also interact with them, for example they can communicate with the neural network Meet Tolik vol. 3 and control the signals of Jupiter, an unmanned Jupiter dump truck.

Installations and AI Persona

The Assembly Point 2030 media installation is located in the very center of the site. It’s a prototype of a quantum computer. The art object collects sounds, images and movements from the urban environment and transforms Moscow residents’ collective vision of the future into a visual flow. The project was inspired by quantum technology research at conducted at Bauman Moscow State Technical University.

It hosts lectures on science, technology and urbanism during the day and concerts in the evenings.

The kinetic sculpture Steel Color combines natural rhythms with an industrial aesthetic. Whereas in nature, flowers open at dawn, Steel Color remains motionless during the day and comes to life at dusk. The concept is related to the idea of digital twins of plants researched in the Ecosphere laboratory of Bauman Moscow State Technical University.

Search 001 is an audiovisual installation about the storage and transfer of knowledge beyond Earth. The protagonist is an unmanned dump truck, KAMAZ Jupiter 30, created jointly by engineers of the university and the KAMAZ scientific and technical center. Visitors can control the audio-visual effects by touch.

The interactive AI character Tolik vol. 3 communicates with the audience through his robotic arm, and as he does so develops his own personality and character. The installation explores where the boundary between humans and machines lies and shows how artificial intelligence is able to evolve in dialog.

Exhibitions and interactive zones

In the Flora congress hall visitors can see an interactive exhibition about the symbiosis of technology and nature. It presents a farm of the future, in which plants, light and machines together form a living organism. Engineers, roboticists and light artists worked on the project, prototyping a new ecosystem in which technology becomes an extension of natural processes.

The NeuroMirror zone combines computer vision, a touch panel and a server with a graphical neural network. Visitors can choose from futuristic roles such as Architect of Digital Worlds, Climate Analyst, Bioengineer of Personalized Medicine, Drone Operator or even Cyborg Man. The camera will then capture the image, and a neural network will create a real-time video transporting the character to the chosen reality. After a few seconds, the finished result can be downloaded by scanning a QR code and the visitor can then share their avatar of the future on social media.

The immersive installation The Field transforms a lawn into a living space of light. Visitors can manipulate the streams of light like water or magnetic waves, creating their own pattern. The word “field” refers to environmental research and shows that humans not only observe but also influence ecological processes.

The Sound Pergola explores the border between noise and music. Industrial sounds, collected in partnership with the acoustic laboratory of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, are processed into musical compositions, which visitors will also be able to create themselves.

The Culture of Code media exhibition addresses the issue of artificial intelligence. Today, culture is born out of code, fed by massive amounts of data, and this raises a wide range of aesthetic and ethical questions. The creators of the exhibition explore the hidden mechanisms that are embedded in neural networks and the limits of their capabilities. Visitors can touch digital technology and interact directly with the exhibits.

The video art exhibition Techno Photosynthesis is dedicated to the possible unification of digital and plant life. Humans are changing flora, and in the future bioengineers may create plants that combine organic life with technology. Such flora will not only feed and photosynthesize, but also connect to digital networks, adapt, communicate and participate in information processing. The creators of the exhibition explore the boundaries of nature and the ethics of biotechnology, raising questions about the role of humans as creators of new ecosystems.

Moscow is a city where the technologies of the future are already being applied in the present. Children play on high-tech sports fields, learn through innovative technology, and draw on recommendations from artificial intelligence systems. Adults operate robots in manufacturing processes, navigate the city in state-of-the-art public transport, receive advanced medical therapies, and more.

The Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030 forum presents to Moscow residents and visitors to the capital the main innovations and achievements in all spheres of life in the city. From August 1 to September 14 the forum features a wide range of cultural, sports, educational and other events dedicated to the development of one of the world’s most modern megacities take place. The large-scale project will make it possible to form the image of the capital and enable people to see what it will be like in a few years.

The Cloud Cities technological progress zone operates within the framework of the Moscow Mayor’s Summer in Moscow project and the Territory of the Future forum. Moscow 2030. All events are free of charge. The full program is published on moscow2030.mos.ru.
