Green areas and smart buildings: how Moscow residents see the capital of the future
Residents of the capital believe that in the next five years their city will become more technological and convenient. These results were obtained by experts of the Committee on Tourism of Moscow, having surveyed 500 Moscow residents over 18 years old in July–August 2025. Many expectations of the city’s residents are reflected in the program of the Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030 forum. Digital culture and new forms of leisure and creativity
52 percent of respondents believe that by 2030 the capital’s cultural and entertainment facilities will be digitally accessible. Green areas and landscaped urban environment
41 percent of survey participants hope to see more green space in the city. At the forum sites, visitors can see proposals for park improvement and the creation of green corridors and concept designs for sustainable urban development projects. In addition, they can see the installation Flora, the result of work by an interdisciplinary team and research by Robohall and Bauman Moscow State Technical University. It is a “farm of the future” in which plants, light and machines interact to create a dynamic ecosystem.
Transportation of the future: high technology and comfort for Moscow residents
Thirty-nine percent of respondents believe that in five years public transportation will be fully electric. Every third respondent expects high-speed trains to appear in the metro by this time and believes that in 15 years the capital will have smart roads. On September 10, in the open lecture hall of the new campus of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Mikhail Krestmein will give a lecture, Metro tomorrow: why expand the network? The expert will tell the audience why the city continues to build metro stations, how new lines increase the efficiency of the transportation system and how the plan of the metro network will change in the near future.
More futuristic projects can also be explored in this venue. For example, there is Search 001, an installation based on an invention by the university and the KamAZ plant, a real transport system of the future. It illustrates a possible mechanism for sending human knowledge into space.
Daily life in the digital environment
Survey participants say that the digitalization of everyday life will create new opportunities for leisure, education and work. Respondents believe that by 2030 the city will introduce educational VR programs and virtual cultural routes, and use digital services more actively. 38 percent of respondents believe that Moscow will have more smart buildings by 2030, and that in 15 years robots and drones will replace maintenance staff.
Respondents expressed concerns related to digital security. This is a topic that the forum pays special attention to. On September 12, Denis Chumachenko and experts from Security Vision will give a lecture entitled How to Protect Yourself from Cyber Fraudsters in 2025 at the new campus of Bauman Moscow State Technical University. Attendees will learn about how to use social media and messenger services safely. On September 10 Pavel Revenkov and Alexander Dudka will give a talk entitled Social Networks: how not to Disclose Unnecessary Information, in which they will describe some of the fraudulent schemes that are most commonly used in 2025 and how to avoid risks when managing personal finances.
Moscow is a city where the technologies of the future are already being applied in the present. Children play on high-tech sports fields, learn through innovative technology, and draw on recommendations from artificial intelligence systems. Adults operate robots in manufacturing processes, navigate the city in state-of-the-art public transport, receive advanced medical therapies, and more.
