Violins, jazz and DJs: Musical experiments on City Day
Various events to mark City Day will be held on 10-11 September. Many venues will hold concerts, featuring popular and young performers.

Music City Day in Sokolniki

Dates: 10 September, 1 pm - 9 pm

11 September, 1 pm - 6 pm

Location: 1 Sokolnichesky Val

On 10-11 September, Sokolniki Park will hold concerts at the Jazz on Fountain Square and Theatre on Festivalnaya Square venues, featuring musicians from Russia, France and Switzerland.

DJs performing special sets will kick off both days by warming up park visitors with festive rhythms. On Saturday, visitors can enjoy the Kreda instrumental band, performing various music (from the French chanson to jazz and pop music), jazz performed by singer Alevtina Polyakova, and the band Real Jam, which revives old jazz traditions. The concert will conclude with a Swiss band, Authentic Light, and French singer Alejandra Ribera.

On Sunday, singers will perform from the A’cappella ExpreSSS group and Astoria string duet, a joint project of violinist Viktoriya Lanskaya and cellist Anna Zarubina. The programme is made up of jazz covers of Soviet songs, modern hits, jazz standards and instrumental music. They will be followed by MosBrass band of trumpets, saxophones, trombones and more. The programme will conclude with 1/2 Orchestra, whose music is a constant live experiment. The group has released four albums, toured in Europe and performed at Russian and international festivals.

Kremlin Chamber Orchestra concert

Date: 10 September, 7 pm - 8 pm

Location: Kuskovo Estate, 2 Yunosti Street

The Kremlin Chamber Orchestra is well-known for its supple tone, thoughtful interpretations and creative programmes. The group is defined by its meticulous choice of repertoire. The City Day concert, which will take place at the Kuskovo Museum-Estate, will be conducted by Mikhail Rakhlevsky.

Classical chamber music will be played in various pavilions of the estate. The grand finale will come in the Dance Hall, whose interior is perfectly suited for classical music.

Charity concert at Shilov Gallery

Date: 11 September, 6 pm - 8 pm

Location: 3 Znamenka Street

On 11 September, the Shilov Gallery will host a festive concert, featuring singers from the Valentina Levko Vocal School. The programme includes masterpieces by Russian and world composers. Guests will also be treated to an exhibit of works by Alexander Shilov, People’s Artist of the USSR, academician of the Russian Academy of Arts. Admission is free.

Music and poetry with actors of the Pyotr Fomenko Workshop Theatre

Date: 11 September, 1 pm - 2 pm

Location: Patriarshiye Ponds

The Pyotr Fomenko Workshop Theatre has prepared a special programme for City Day. Young actors and workshop students will sing beloved songs and recite poems. The participants and the programme are secret, but the audience is sure to enjoy the selections. 

Concert in Sadovniki Park

Dates: 10-11 September, 12 am - 7 pm

Location: 58a Prospekt Andropova

On 10-11 September, Sadovniki Park will be a huge draw for true music lovers. A big concert will feature masters of jazz improvisation and young musicians with ironic retro sounds of the 1960s-1970s. The audience will hear the bands Shoo, Platya za 130 and Neon Tapehead, masters of jazz improvisation Marimba Plus, St. Petersburg singer Zhenya Lyubich, and the band Pompeya, beloved by Moscow and foreign audiences alike.

Concert at Shalom Theatre

Date: 11 September, 3 pm - 4 pm

Location: Park Pobedy, Zelenograd

On 11 September, the Shalom Theatre will present a show, Stuffed Fish With Fixings, to Zelenograd residents, featuring the best vocal, dance and spoken performances with a Jewish flavour. The merry, light and, of course, humorous show will familiarise the audience with Jewish culture, its ancient customs and traditions. The event will be presented by the renowned actor, director and artistic director of the Shalom Theatre Alexander Levenbuk.

“Once There Lived Muscovites” concert

Date: 10 September, 2 pm - 7 pm

Location: 2 Shkulyova Street, bld. 1

Every September, Moscow is decorated in bright colours and welcomes Moscow residents and guests with concerts and fireworks. The Gaidar House of Pioneers and Schoolchildren will hold a concert by the Azarov Academic Choir of Russian Song of the Russian State TV and Radio Music Centre.

The event will be dedicated to Russian cinematography. The programme will feature vocal and choir pieces from renowned Soviet films, Russian folk songs performed by choir and soloists, instrumental works and dance numbers.
