In September, local residents will be able to get a glimpse of the new Moskva metro train at the National Exhibition of Economic Achievements (VDNKh) during City Day celebrations.
“Under the contract, deliveries of new rolling stock are to commence on 1 January 2017, but the manufacturer is now ready to provide the first train for trial runs. We want to display a scaled down version of the train at VDNKh on City Day,” said Deputy Moscow Mayor Maxim Liksutov, Head of the Department for Transport and Road Infrastructure Development.
The train will be installed in front of the arch at the main entrance to VDNKh.
City residents voting on the Active Citizen website chose the name for the new type of metro train. On 2-20 March, a preliminary round of voting was held on the mos.ru website. Over 3,600 proposals were submitted, with the ten most popular ones making the ballot on the Active Citizen website.
In all, 96 new metro trains with 768 railcars are to be delivered from early 2017 through 2020. These trains boast high doorways, upgraded passenger compartments, continuous passages between railcars, modern lighting, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and more convenient doors.
