Since 2010, the capital has purchased more than 4.8 thousand modern metro train carriages.

The Moscow Metro system continues to renew its rolling stock. This year, 34 modern Russian Moscow-2024 series trains are to be purchased. These will replace outdated trains on the Zamoskvoretskaya line and will also appear on the new sections of the Troitskaya line.

“The Moscow Metro is a world leader in terms of the rate of renewal of rolling stock. Since 2010, we have purchased more than 4,800 modern carriages and thus increased the number of new carriages used in the metro system by a factor of almost six. On the instructions of Sergei Sobyanin this year we will continue to renew the trains. This is an important step in improving the quality of transportation and passenger comfort,” said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

Last year, 36 modern trains were delivered. They were first used on the Zamoskvoretskaya line and now make up 100 percent of the trains used on the new Troitskaya metro line.

The Moscow-2024 trains are open-ended, creating a through passage along the whole length of the train, and are equipped with many information screens and climate-control systems with an air disinfection function. There are also USB or Type-C ports on the handrails for passengers to charge electronic devices.
