The capital receives 100 new electric buses
The Konkovo bus depot has received 100 innovative electric buses. This is the 12 th site to provide this form of public transport in the city. The equipment was supplied under an additional agreement with KAMAZ PJSC. The news was reported by Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov.
“The Konkovo site serves more than 40 routes that run through eight districts of the capital, three of which are already electric bus routes: No. 394, M90 and No. 877. Deliveries of the new environmentally friendly vehicles equipment allow us to improve passenger comfort and protect the environment. We are continuing to develop environmentally friendly transportation and charging infrastructure, as instructed by Sergei Sobyanin,” added Maxim Liksutov.
Moscow ranks first in Europe in terms of the development and use of electric transport. Innovative Russian-made machinery has been used on the city’s streets since 2018. Replacing a single conventional bus with an electric bus reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 60 tons per year.
Since 2022, the capital has been supplied with improved vehicles. They have adaptive interior lighting that changes from cool to warm at 2 p. m. for greater passenger comfort. An 18 percent larger front display allows the bus route number to be seen from a greater distance.
The passenger compartment is heated electrically, which does not affect the environment and allows the interior to remain at an optimal temperature. The range has increased from 40–50 to 80–90 kilometers, while the weight of the vehicle has remained the same. From 2024, the routes are served by newly redesigned KAMAZ and LIAZ buses.
Moscow was the first in Russia to build modern electric bus fleets. In 2022, Europe’s largest electric bus fleet, Krasnaya Pakhra, opened in the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky Administrative Districts. The bus routes in these districts are now served by eco-friendly vehicles. A year later, Mitino depot was built in the northwest of the city. With its appearance electric buses began to run on routes in 20 districts of the capital and in two nearby towns in Moscow region. At the end of 2023, the third innovative fleet of electric buses, Saltykovka, began operating. It serves routes on the east side of the city.
Today, more than 2,300 modern vehicles serve more than 180 routes. With new deliveries of technology and the development of charging infrastructure, the city has even more electric bus routes.
In accordance with the goals of the Infrastructure for Life national project, Moscow is focusing on the modernization of social and communal infrastructure, including by increasing the number of convenient public transport routes and renewing the vehicles. In addition, as part of the national project, Moscow has started to develop the Central Transportation Hub. It will become a single circuit with reliable commuter rail transportation for more than 30 million residents in 11 regions of Russia.
