Moscow awarded U4SSC Certificate

Moscow is certified under the UN United for Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC), as announced by Deputy Moscow Mayor Natalya Sergunina.
The U4SSC is a global initiative aimed at improving urban governance, its participants adhering to common approaches to measuring the main megacity criteria.
“The capital has once again confirmed its status as one of the most technologically advanced megacities in the world. When doing the evaluation, experts took into account 90 indicators of innovative development. They cover several key areas, from economics and environment to society and culture,” said Natalya Sergunina.
In particular, international experts noted that almost entire Moscow’s territory was covered by high-speed Internet (98.9 per cent), every day the services used by 97 per cent of residents.
High standards
Moscow in fact takes advantage of all advanced technologies, such as blockchain, metaverses, the Internet of Things, and other innovations. Every year, it runs over 300 IT projects, with artificial intelligence involved in more than 90 of them to date. Last year alone, 25 Moscow-born developments were awarded prestigious Russian and international digitalization awards.
In 2021, the capital was awarded certificates of compliance with two international standards at once, namely ISO 37 120 Sustainable cities and communities — Indicators for city services and quality of life, and ISO 37 122 Sustainable cities and communities — Indicators for smart cities.
Moscow was among the top 10 megacities in the world to be U4SSC certified. The certification was based on 80 criteria to evaluate how effectively technological solutions are applied in all sectors.

City as a service array
Today, Moscow’s flagship portal mos.ru offers more than 420 e-services, covering all areas, from healthcare and education to culture to housing & utilities. The number of daily requests from residents exceeds two million, and the total number of registered users is 15.9 million, the Moscow Department of Information Technologies says.
Thanks to digitalization, residents can skip submitting more than a billion certificates that would require otherwise. With the online tools, Muscovites can also greatly contribute to the capital’s development, using them to make decisions or share proposals. The City of Ideas platform contains more than 200 thousand initiatives in healthcare, transportation, entrepreneurship, etc. Hundreds of them are implemented every year.
This spring marked the 10 th anniversary of the Active Citizen project. Embracing over seven million residents, it is used to choose which parks, courtyards and squares need to be improved, how clinics and cultural institutions should operate, or vote for the names of streets and metro stations. More than four thousand solutions have been implemented to date.
